Has anyone ever used any kind of custom gas cap? How does somebody go about finding a custom gas cap that will fit 2001 valkyrie standard

Hey, welcome to the forum.

The only custom gas cap I can ever remember seeing was fabricated by Gary "Shock Bushing" Eckermann (aka Þrúðr).  You can read a little about it here.  Unfortunately, Gary passed away last year.  If you search for posts by "Þrúðr" on the Old Tech Archive, you might find more information.

Other than that custom job, I do not recall seeing any non-OEM replacement caps.

Good luck, and again, WELCOME.

Check this link for aftermarket gas caps (racing).  Doesn't look quite like that one, but still sharp.

I know that a cap from a honda shadow 1100 that is vented will fit.  Some folks that have had the vent tube in the tank rust off use them.  They are not custom and don't look that great.

Doubtful you will find anything easy or cheap and definitely not both. But here is one that I had on my Supertank that I really liked.

Due to glare the cap hardly shows up but you can see it. It was a flush cap that you could lock or leave unlocked and still not worry about it come loose. It would be a difficult install on a Valkyrie tank, cutting, welding, bodywork and paint.
