I have lost my idle adjustment knob, don't know how but it is missing from the middle right side carb. I believe it is  number four. I have a new one coming, and would like to know if it is possible to replace it with out removing the carb.  It looks to me that I could remove the riser on the bottom, and reach the threaded hole where it goes.  You can dam well bet I will try that first.  Wondering if anyone has tried it sucessfully.  It's a PIA to ride when the engine won't run at less than 1500 rpm.  Hoser  Shocked

Yes you can replace it without pulling anything off you just have to slow down take your time it. I have found it is easier to super glue the head of the screw into the gray plastic knob so it won't keep falling out.

the knob goes where your hands don't fit well
gluing the nut into the knob is a good idea (don't get glue in the threads) because when (not if) you drop the cap with a loose nut in it, your vocabulary will surprise you and it will take time to find the nut.
I balanced the cap on a pair of long nosed pliers, manuvered it into place with a bit of upward pressure, and got it started using two fingers because that's all that will fit.
Look up where the shaft is that you scew the knob onto-it is a a bit of an angle-once you see that it is easier to screw it on
patience,

The idle knob sits between number 1 and 3 carbs. FWIW. You better be quick on that clutch idling at 1500 rpm.  Shocked Cheesy

I assume you are talking about the grey plastic idle speed adjustment screw that lives between cylinders 1 and 3 as mentioned. Removing the intakes would probably make it easier to install the new one.
Just to make sure though that we are about the correct screw, there is no throttle height adjustment screw on #3 carburetor as there is on the remaining 5.
