Hi I have to separate my carbs to do the o-rings but I noticed there isn't much info in the manual regarding the sync springs and the thrust springs. Of course I want to avoid messing with the sync screws but is there a trick to getting them back into position when reassembling? Got them out now and have all the red eye stuff en-route. Plan on doing the rest this weekend. Thanks!

Quick response is be "PATIENT" those little springs can be a booger to get back in, a spare set of hands will help a bit and small and long needle nose pliers and a thin/wide flat screw driver in some places.

I wish I would have had the patience and time to do a complete write up when I pulled mine with pictures but like most I was itching to get through the task and didn't slow down to think that much.

Good luck.

Take pictures before and during the process. Try doing three carbs at a time.

Thanks "momz". Watched all those and they never separate the carbs to replace the fuel and air rail o-rings.

So I'm confused, how do you change the fuel rail O-rings without separating the carbs?  Undecided  ???

I installed the Red Eye 0-ring kit this fall and did one carb at a time, mainly because the gallon of carb cleaner will only hold one carb at a time.  I was having the same leak that you have and decided to completely clean each carb as I installed the new o-rings.  I could see no way to install the 0-rings in the fuel transfer tubes other than taking them apart.  It is a slow process, so do not get in a big hurry to get the job completed.  Start by laying out all the parts to one carb and remember where each one goes.  Follow the directions on the can of carb cleaner and those with the Red Eye kit.  I used Berryman Chem-Dip, but I am sure that there are others that work equally well and I am reasonably sure that any of them will destroy anything rubber that you put in the can.  Just take your time and it will be "old hat" by the time you finish the last one.  It took the better part of two days from start to finish.  Ran like a charm...Jim  Smiley

Sorry, I should have Written: Those videos dont address the fuel rail o-rings at all.  You absolutely must seperate the cabs to do the fuel rail o-rings.

Hey thanks to those that responded. I got my parts a day early so I just finished separating, installing the O-rings and reassembling the carb array. Was really kind of easy. helped to have a dental pick to skewer the springs to stop them from flying away. While reassembling, the thrust springs can be put in position just before the carbs are fully together, and the sync springs can be put in after the carbs are all the way together by just getting one end halfway onto the "nub", then compressing the spring and pushing it into place.

I'll be putting her back together Saturday morning.

Glad to read here that it well for you. You learnt quick about the springs and being patient. If it all went back together correctly you shouldn't have to synch them. The best thing I can say to anyone doing this is to make sure they set a side the time when you aren't rushed to finish in a hurry.

You can sync the carbs on the bench with good results.

A good baseline at the very least!
