On Saturday June 20, my son, 1st Lieutenant Matt East will fly out in route to Afghanistan with the 877th Engineer Battalion. Please continue to pray for our brave troops.

We shall surely remember him along with the rest still over there. One of my granddauter's husband is also there, he's also a fairly new father as of last January. He got to fly home for a short visit after his daughter was born, big surprise for him they let him go. He's a medic, or similar, was an EMT back here, and has been close to some action.

You just have to reassure yourself your son is going to be fine.

Most of me knows he will be fine John, but the cursed lump in my throat hasn't gone down yet. He's a good boy, and a much better person than I.

I will pray for your son and all the others who are presently in harms' way.  When you start to worry, and I know that you will, just remind yourself that he is safer there than he would be if he were walking the streets of D.C. for a year...JTL
