I'd recommend not butchering the stock pipes but its too late....
Might want to consider these as candidates for the glasspak mod.
Enjoy. And your gas mileage should not be affected unless you re-jet. Monitor your plugs for color to see if you're running rich (ok) or lean (not good).

I did the Ragnar Cut, then took it one step farther. I removed the entire back of each can. (I have 18" Airflow exhaust tips.) The front baffles remain untouched. It did not affect my MPG. I like the sound. It's really not that loud..... If you'd like to hear how it sounds on the go, here's a video I made with my Christmas present. (GoPro camera.)

It didn't affect my mpg, but it played hell on my hearing. The drone just about killed me.

I recently did the easy glass pack mod, and slipped some truck stacks over them. Man....this thing sounds like a formula one car. But it is NOT too loud. Cruising down the highway it's very mellow. But if you goose the throttle, you're going to hear about it. what a wonderful sound.

Sounds just about right! Hoser But he did not get on it very hard, and you couldn't hear the drone that they have a tendency to produce. Only thing you can do to a set of butchered up set of pipes by doing the Ragnar cut is make junk out of them or they can be gutted an a glasspak put in them. Somewhere in my garage or the shop, I have a set of pipes we did the Ragnar cut on and it was the worst waste of $$$$ I ever performed. Tired to sell them, then I tried to give em away and still didn't get any takers.

I used the mounting bracket from GoPro's "Roll Bar" mount and the extension from their "helmet mount". I attached it to the left side turn signal. The extension went under the windshield... holding the camera in front of the shield. Worked pretty good.

Basically, it's gutting the rear end of the exhaust can. Here ya go..... http://luiscajiga.com/Exhaustm.htmhttp://luiscajiga.com/Exhaustm2.htmAfter I did the Ragnar cut to mine, I really liked how the bike sounded. Really mean sounding. However, I learned the hard way about drone. Perhaps it's just me and my tinnitus, but the drone was more than I could stand. This is after I cut the piggies and drilled the rear baffles.....
This is after I did the Ragnar cut.....

Well Ragnar Cut done and OMG should have done that months ago, sounds divine. Just waiting on the brakes to be overhauled now and we'll take it out for a spin hopefully by the weekend.

BAD idea. You'll be sorry. Well too late for you now. For others - cut off the rear baffle section at 7-3/8 inches. Get a set of stacks, put on your muffler cans, then insert the back baffle section back into the stacks. Now you have a reversible "ragnar cut". IOW, take out the silencers, sounds the same as the cut. But put them back in, and you have quiet pipes again - good for road trips, and eliminating the drone you caused. See my web page for a more complete description of the process: http://www.horseapple.com/Valkyrie/Valk_Products/M2W_Exhaust__System/m2w_exhaust__system.html#SilencersTxT Luis really should pull this description of the ragnar cut - it's old, a bad idea, and has been made obsolete by my silencers concept. BTW - Luis bought a glasspack exhaust system from me 13 years ago - after he wrote up his page describing the ragnar cut. So he didn't have the ragnar cut for long.

I use a set of Mark T's silencers in my Viper pipes. They were built by Mike Townsend in N. Hampshire and it appears he basically cuts off the back end of the muffler and welds the very back piece back on. It shortens the muffler quite a bit, and on the open road has a drone I couldn't handle. Around town, I like it...has a powerful throb. I bought a set of Mark's silencers and recessed them about 6-7" so you can't see the end of them unless you get down on a knee. One small bolt holds them in place and they work great for me. On the highway, if you get on it....they still talk to you. They look just like the picture he posted, only mine aren't that pretty anymore.

I did the Ragnar cut. Too loud for my lady when she rides. She has fibromyalgia and her hearing becomes super sensitive at times due to that.
So I buy the Airflo truck stacks and then the speedboat silencers to put in 1" from the end of the truck stacks.
I really like the sound now. So much deeper and mellower than stock. I can take the silencers out short order, but doubt I ever will.
No drone ith the silencers in.

Add a set of Grumpy's tips. You'll thank me later. Along with the light-weight marine silencers, they'll totally get rid of the drone, but yet, you'll still have a very nice sounding/growling exhaust note without it being loud at all. Plus, the Grumpy's really dress up the Airlfow extensions/tips.

I cut off the "piggies".......and drilled the rear baffles.......it does sound nice! I had thought about the Ragnar cut......but as I get older, I am not into making so much noise anymore......so that is as far as I will go. I remember back to the 70's......where most aftermarket exhaust systems were nothing more than a megaphone.........with a removable baffle. I had a Honda 750 with an "RC racing" 4 into 1 megaphone on it. If you pulled the 1 bolt baffle out, and started bouncing redline........you could hear that thing from at LEAST 3 miles away!!!! Sweet Lord, that was loud!!! My ears would ring, as if I fired off a .44 magnum revolver 25 times without ear plugs!! Those were the days!!!!
