Clutch fluid

My clutch seems to be maybe not engaging as well as it should. Hard shift. My fluid seems low for starters. Do i dare top off with DOT 3. Calls for Dot 4. Thought I heard 3 & 4 are compatible but not 5 ? Thnks,,,,

DOT 3 & 4 are compatible...DOT 4 has a higher boiling point, which is why most motorcycles call for it in the brakes...if you brake HARD AND LOTS (to the point of nice glowing rotors) you supposedly could boil DOT 3. Completely irrelevant in the clutch, but if ya have DOT 4 on hand may as well use it.
Also check the two bushings in the lever for wear as this can cause significant clutch action issues.

If it looks like the color of molasses, it would be a good idea to change it as well. Should be almost clear.

Good point...A changing/bleeding is pretty much the norm if you have to open up one of those master cylinders.

Was real low, and molasses colored. I just topped it off. Didnt want to maybe wind up bleeding it.
