Ok, got a question , has anyone taken a bike wheel into a bussiness that mounts auto and truck tires? Can a place that doesn't sell bike tires such as Firestone or Wal-Mart mount motorcyle tires on motorcyle wheels? I have heard that places like this can mount car tires on bike wheels, or am I wrong about that? I never thought about it untill tonight and I don't recall having read much about this. It would sure be simpler if Wal-Mart or Firestone could mount my bike tires on my bike wheels. Is that possible? adios fast black

The Goodyear store in Ames , Iowa mounted a car tire for one of the local Iowa guys, so I would think they could do a MC tire as well. I think the issue would be balancing it?? I can't remember what we did for Scott's when he did it. If Craig from Panora is reading this he might remember, he was also involved in the project. They weren't sure about the car tire on the bike but didn't have any trouble mounting it on the wheel.

I found a local auto tire shop that had bikes parked out front on Sunny days...stopped in and asked them...they would mount what ever I wanted...and bc the bikes, they knew how to mount bike/car tires on bike rims...and only charged $15...

I just put a car tire on my 2000 Interstate last Thursday at a Conoco Station. He was one of my customers before I retired. Most Tire shops have the newer rim clamp tire machines that handle the job with no problem whatsoever. They do all sorts of aluminum wheels on the newer vehicles and their customers are just as particular as we are about not scratching or harming their wheels. The rim clamp tire machines have plastic covers for all the the clamping points as well as the shoe that runs the tire onto the rim.
So it really amounts to finding a tire shop that is willing to mount the CT on the Bike wheel.

I wouldn't do it especialy with our rims. The Valktrie and Goldwing are very tight tolarance rims. Thers not a lot to get ahold of, Im not saying it cant be done but you are taking a big chance of getting your rims damaged. I bought a No-Mar tire changer and the motorcycle rim clamps for it. Takes longer to get the rim wheel off the bike than it does to change out the tire. The pic shows the rim clamps it also keeps from bending rotors. If the dealer is not set up for motorcycles. I wouldn't take the chance. Goody

Your best bet is to take it to a dealer or find a local a local independent mechanic to mount them. I have a guy within a few miles that runs a small HD repair shop that has mounted my tires, including my CT. I have a appointment on Thurs to have a front tire mounted. I'm into the wear bars....

The local bike shops here have the exact rim clamp machine that the car tire shops have. I just had my rear tire mounted at a tire shop that is owned by a friend of mine. I took the tire and rim in and they dismounted the old tire and mounted the new tire, installed the dyna beads, and filled it with nitrogen. Took them about 10 minutes. If you know someone or do business with a shop with your cars I would bet that they would do it for you.

Sigs is the tire shop that I use when I'm back home. They're a automotive tire shop that also does lawn mowers, tractors, etc. They do a little of everything, but they don't sell motorcycle tires. However, if you bring in a motorcycle tire they can mount it. They can do up to a 21 inch wheel. They have only one guy, a biker, that they let do it, so you have to make sure he's there.
Oddly enough they have more than one location. They're a fairly big place. But only one of the locations can do a big enough wheel.
The places that mount the spinner rims and 20" wheels would also have the right equipment. They're used to not scratching large wheels.
Just my 2cents.
Up here in PA I'm using a bike shop. I'm dropping it off Monday. Should be ready by Tuesday. Tried to get it done Friday but they were to busy. So I'll have to go back. They were the cheapest place around and the only one willing to mount a car tire on a bike, so they win.
