Do a search on "trigger wheel", you'll get all sorts of information. There has been some comments on airlake vs lamonster wheels in the past on the old board for sure, don't know about this one.

it had square edges and the Lamonster had more rounded edges. I had the 6 degree Lamonster on my 97 Tourer and didn't have any problems. It will get you a small gas mileage increase and more power in the low to mid range, but you will lose top end. Probably will only run 100-110 mph with the 6 degree.

I have a 4 degree Airlake TW on my 2K I/S and am quite pleased.
However on my 98 standard, I did the "simple" ECT modification.
ThE ECT mod is easier to do, cheaper, and does not lower your top speed. By far a better improvement than the TW with better results. IMHO

I agree. I like ECT mod better, but lost that extra mpg. If you do go with the trigger wheel, use a 4 deg for the I/S and a 6 deg for the Tourer and standard.

From what I remember it won't do anything better then either one by itself. I was told do 1 or the other. Has to do with timing i guess. ???

Too much advance and the engine will run backwards. One or the other.

Now I'm confused, the ECT does not give as good a mpg boost as the trigger wheel???

From what I understand, the ECT mod only advances the timing up to the lower 3000 RPM range where the advance kicks out returning the timing to it's regular place. The TW advances the timing throughout the entire timing curve from idle to red line. So, if your bike seems to need more help in the lower RPM ranges the ECT will work fine but if it needs more help with the timing advance in the mid to mid/upper rpm range the ECT will not help as much as the TW will. Someone who actually understands this in depth may add some input.

The air lake is the better of the two. If you ever think about adding a Interstate ICM I would go with the 4 degree. I have been here for a while and have ran the 6 degree and also the ECT mod. I didn't like the ECT mod and put my 6 degree wheel back on and have never looked back. They the 6 degree hurts the top end but I have had mine up to 130 mph with the trigger wheel. So I figured how often do I run top end. Mid range and gas milage gives the advantage to the trigger wheel. I spen most of my time around 3000 rpm's and higher so the ECT didn't do it for me. OK. I'll ask the question. I'm a newbie to the Valyrie world. What is the ECT mod?

The ETC mod is fooling the bike to make it seems cold. These bike advances 10 degrees while they are cold and once they warm up it goes back to normal. But even cold once you hit around 2850 rpm the 10 degree advance no longer is in effect. Where the 4 and 6 degree trigger wheel advances all the time. There is a write up in shop talk take will show you how to hook this up. I tried it and didn't like it, but others do like it. The good part is if you don't like it you can put it back the way it was. David

I have been told that the trigger wheel could be hard on the bearings. I know some of you guys have been running them a long time. Anyone had any major engine issues that might be attributed to the trigger wheel?

I've had mine on the bike for the last 60,000 miles with no problems. David
