A couple days ago I mad up a set of heated grips. Very inexpensive. Temporary just to see how well they worked. They work really good. 28awg 27' per grip covered with bicycle inner tube and some coax connectors. I used a 12v 8a led dimmer. In all it cost me about $6. painted the dimmer black and added a red LED for fun. I have plenty wire left over if anyone needs some. $5 per 100'.

Got to be REAL careful that the wires don't shift and touch.  If they move and touch, the effective length of wire goes way down resulting in extreme heat generation.  Hot enough to burn your hand, and possibly melt parts or even start a fire?

I did the same thing years ago, used large heat shrink to cover the grips.  Developed a short, trust me that wire can get HOT!!

This wire is insulated. It is crossed over its self many times. Plus it is over my ISO grips which are metal.

Guy I work with did the same idea last winter.  If you use shrink tube, make SURE its not the marine type thats adhesive lined......Dumba$$  ruined a set of ISO grips.

F6Banger, did you wrap 27 ft of wire or 27 inches? 27 ft seems like a lot but just wanted to make sure. I think I will have to try this. Where did you get the dimmer?

jmann, I used 27 feet per grip. The 28awg is really thin. Got the dimmer off of ebay.

Thanks. I will give this a try. Pretty inexpensive way to see if I like it. Lot less expensive than heated gloves.   cooldude

love innovation   cooldude

remember that heated grips do NOT help the part of your hand that is exposed to the air !

my beemer police bike has heated grips and my palms and inside of my hands are warm or hot depending on the setting

All of my fingers however can still get damn cold from the big knuckles to the fingertips

Under 40-45 degrees I use my heated gloves if the ride is more than a half hour

Now if someone made a heated cowl for my toes to stay warm that would be something great

As you can see in the pic I have some (trial) homemade wind deflectors. I got some bigger pieces of acrylic to make some new ones. You can kinda see them in the bottom pic.

Wow, someone needs to wash that bike!!! Embarrassed

I activate the warmers 30 minutes before I leave the garage, just followed the directions on the package saying they need half hour to warm up.  That being said,  I will probly try the ones above, pretty clever!    Hoser  Wink
