For the last few months I have had a buzzing noise under acceleration, thought it might be the buzz bolt, but no joy there.  Finally figured it out, the header cover ahead of the mufflers has 2 rubber parts that go where it meets the muffler cover, mine were gone. I guess the heat finally did them in. replaced them and the bike is quiet again. Just an FYI in case you have the same problem.

Been hunting a buzz as well and have yet to find it. Another place to look. Thanks!

I've got a buzz/rattle going on up front somewhere on the right side of my interstate's fairing but haven't been able to locate it yet. Have plans on taking the fairing off and replacing whatever along with new bulbs in the meter panel. Still haven't decided which darkside tire to go with yet. Grumpy, are you still running the Austone, and if so, what do you like about it?

The cover noise can be checked just by tapping them with your foot or your hand. Not a big deal. I tried a few different things to correct it but failed. Ended up ordering the small rubber pieces from HDL along with other parts. You may as well replace them on both sides, 4 total is needed and I believe they were about $1.50 each. The noise is gone.

While you guys are looking for buzzes...

Check your chrome radiator covers (front AND side).

Mine's been buzzing for some time now... one of these days I'm going to pull the covers and line them with rubber.

It's easy to check. just tap on all the pieces with you fingers.  You'll hear it.

Still love it, if I ever wear it out, will replace with the same. I like the fact it handles like a motorcycle tire, does not follow ridges, tar snakes etc. Very stable ride, I have close to 6500 miles on it now.

The screws that hold on the side chrome radiator covers are under the reflectors.  Heat 'em and peel them off, then reattach with double sided 3M tape.  Mine rattled too.

3M tape is a good idea!  Thanks for that!

One of these days I'll get around to it... the problem is that every time I have time, I end up riding instead.   Grin

I had a buzz too.  Found the sound dampening/rock protector fabric loose under the front fender.  Cut it off (I probably shouldn't have) and the buzz went away.

I've been meaning to talk to you about that. That's why I wear ear plugs, all that noise your bike makes Grin Glad you found it.

Grumpy: Thanks for the fiche.  Thats what I was looking for.  After laying on the cold concrete looking up, I am assuming that there are tabs that the rubber pieces fit on?   If so, looks like I could use some new ones also.

Yep little metal tabs on the cover that they slide on, keeps the two covers from vibrating against each other.

I ordered and replaced the rubber isolators last weekend but it didn't take care of my buzz on acceleration. I have been looking for this noise since I have gotten the bike. I ran into someone who has an Interstate. We are going to swap bikes for a short ride and compare. I have never rode another Valk to date. When I spoke to him about such a noise he didn't feel like his did that.

Bike has just over 32k on it. Things I have checked so far.

The buzz bolt. I took it apart and had the tube tapped for set screws.
Taken off most of the chrome covers including the radiator grille.
Replaced the U joint. Old one appeared ok. Serviced the rear end. All looked fine.
I had it apart for paint two years ago. Went over the entire bike for loose bolts.
Replaced the timing belt. Checked pulleys and they seemed smooth.

I don't get the noise revving the bike in neutral or cruising. Just under load.

Area I plan to explore is pulling the carb rack and clean and adjust carbs. I had word one carb was replaced by last owner. Not sure why. Want to check all the jets, pilot settings and see if they are in sync. I want to take note of the current pilot settings prior to setting them.  My thoughts, could something amiss in the carb/s be causing the engine to buzz under load. Meaning all 6 not working together.

Its been a process of elimination mostly. Last thoughts are towards the clutch or possible alternator?? I have pulled slightly on the clutch to put pressure on the clutch rod to make sure its not rattling.

My IS does the same thing.  from about 2500 to 3000 rpm, while under load.  With the sidecar, worse.  More load.

MP, that's good to know. I think my next logical step is to take this other IS for a ride and have him ride mine. Then go from there.

If you find out what is causing this, be sure to post the answer.   I also have the same problem.  It has had this noise since I got it some 45K miles ago.  (I did check to see if the exhaust noise that Grumpy taked about was causing the noise - but it wasn't it)

Grumpy:

What is best way to take cover off?  Just remove the front #16 bolt?

My left cover feels fine, but the right one sounds like it is missing the rubbers.  Of course, it is the side that has the sidecar on it!  LOL   tickedoff tickedoff

Yep, just the one bolt holds it. One note when you install the cover, make sure there is a small gap between it and the muffler cover, no gap will make them rattle also.

On the right side I had to take the bolts out that hold the footpeg/brake pedal and flip it up to get at the bolt holding the cover. Then slide the cover forward to release the cover from the rubber tabs. I had to do the same for the footpeg on the left side as well. When you put the cover back on make sure both tabs engage. I got under and looked up to verify.

That sounds like I might want to take the sidecar off to do that!  tickedoff  Hard to get at much with the hack on.

When I wiggle the left side, it feels like there is rubber.  When I wiggle the right side, it clanks metal on metal.  Cry Cry
