Greetings.  I’m a long time lurker, first time poster.  After reading several super valk posts, I have decided to pull the trigger and convert my interstate to a super valk.  The problem is I’m a visual learner.  Can someone post or e-mail me pictures of how you connected the standard/tourer wire harness with interstate wire harness behind the right side cover.  Thanks in advance.

All that is not necessary.

You'll need a standard tail light assembly, so you have a brake light and connecting that little bit up should present no problem.

Naturally a few tools like a continuity light and a volt/ohm meter is a great help when making any kind of electrical fixes.

Hopester,

You will want to order items 6 & 7 from the link below.

http://www.ronayers.com/Fiche/TypeID/26/Type/WIRE_HARNESS/MakeID/1/Make/Honda/YearID/40/Year/1999/ModelID/4617/Model/GL1500CT/GroupID/142532/Group/WIRE_HARNESS

You will have to remove the 3-pin connector for the I/S brake wiring under the side cover.  Once you do that, replace the plug with the right size barrel connector for the Tourer/Standard wiring harness.  Just match up the wire colors.  The Tourer/Standard rear fender wiring harness has a connector for the brake light and then goes on to the turn signals.  Yeah, you could do it without the harness, but having the harness make it so you can disconnect the rear piece of the fender.

You may find this helpful. (It's from '08 so prices may be off)

This is how you would wire the additional rear tail light you placed on the rear fender. But it does not get your trunk working again, when you place the trunk back on, unless you want to not have a working rear brake light on your fender along with the trunk light. To have them both work will require more work.

No new harness required, all I did was splice the new tailight into the existing brake and tail light wires and also spliced in a regular 4-wire trailer connector under the seat to take the trunk on and off. Somewhere on this site someone posted the write up to do it that way, possibly Normand in Quebec but I can't seem to find his site anymore?

Great thread, thank you for starting it. I added a Standard/Tourer tail light to my Interstate last year. I replaced the tail light wire harness as well as the rear fender harness. I also had one additional wire to connect under the right side cover but I don't remember which one it was or what it was for. I posted about what I did but that was a year ago. I also moved my Hondaline CB under the seat next to the battery. I would also like very much to make my Interstate into a Super Valk as I think it looks fantastic. I'm not sure what to do with my existing CB and radio antennas though. Any ideas?

Thank You,

Mark

mark, this is what was sugested to me;

my question is where did Mirion get the "luggage" rack/bar thing?  i'm looking at the I/S brackets for the fender struts and i don't like the way they look.  so i was going to switch 'em out to the tourer or standard style, much cleaner look. (i think)

I really need to get something done on this as well as mount my Audiovox Cruise Control. It does me no good on a table in my office!  Roll Eyes

People with the talent you have for modifying the bikes are a true inspiration.

Thank you Alph,

That bar came from that guy in Australia but I haven't heard or seen his stuff on Ebay for a while. It mounts to the sissy bar brackets to camoflage them in solo mode because they don't come off without taking the fender rails off.

you couldn't do me a favor and take some close up pictures of how they mount, and how they look up close could you?

thanks a ton!!
