Hello all, last year i bought a 2000 tourer from the UK, had it shipped to Thailand where i have been clocking up many happy miles since.

Out of interest, can anybody shed some light on what this small rubber part is designed to hold ??

The rubber it is made from is quite soft / supple, so whatever it is for must of been very light and easy to hold.

The dealer i bought it from said he got it from Las Vegas, so this board, being mainly from the US of A, may well be able to solve this mystery.

If the pic's do not open, go to my Flickr page and they are the first two pictures there.

Thanks and regards to all.

Steve.

Well is it only on one side? If it is and I were to guess, I'd say it looks the kind of thing used to hold say a jack/plug for a helmet intercom system. Like the jack for the passenger. Cool  I know it's not something that comes on a standard or I believe Interstate either.

Jimmy,

Yes mate, there is only the one as in the picture.

I did think about the socket for some gizmo, but it looks like it is designed to hold something about 1" diametre, that seems quite large for a jackplug type of connector ?

Those are used on Gold Wings to hold the helmet cord for music and communication. The Interstates have them too. I'd guess there was a handlebar mounted CB like the J&M unit which must be gone now.

That item is on my I/S and does hold the jack plug. Welcome to the insanity. I have been in Bangkok but it was back in 1965. Again-welcome. RIDE SAFE.

Thanks for the confirmation "Old".

'65, well as you would expect, things have changed somewhat since then !!

But to be honest, i try to avoid BKK as much as i can as it's a pain when on the big motorbike.

But BKK is only 1% of what Thailand has to offer, so no great loss...............

Visit again, you will enjoy it.

The rubber mount should have the rear passenger audio plug. Since it's not there, you mmight want to look behind the RH side cover, and see if it is still plugged in.

I would suggest that it has been removed. No great lost unless you have a passenger who wants to be plugged into the audio system/intercom.
