I just bought an 03 standard that has 10,000 miles on it.  It has been ridden very little during the past 2 years (second owner rarely rode it).  At idle and at low speeds it has a very pronounced miss.  Once you rev it up and get to highway speeds it smooths out.  I am currently running some Sea Foam in gas and hope it is just dirty carbs.  Any other suggestions on what I may be looking for?

You got the same problem I got with my 03 standard, the second owner did not ride much (check my post with many replies ). I'm running the second tank with Seafoam, unsure it's going to work. I may run the third tank and if it still does not work then the carbs have to be cleaned out. Any luck, please let me know.

If you are not putting a FULL can of Seafoam in the tank do so before ya tear the carbs out.............    The little dab will do ya that they recommend will NOT do it......

I used a partial can about 10 years ago in Florida and cussed the stuff till we got home.   Then I put a full can in and rode it, it cleared up.   So, every since then I use a FULL can per tank full if I have a carb problem, and every winter it gets a full can to keep things clean during the winter months......

I've had good results with Techron. I think it's a bit more aggressive than Seafoam. I agree about the strong dose. Give it some time to work, then run it hard on and off the throttle. If it won't do it you need to clean or replace the slow jets. Some of us have replaced the stock 35s with 38 slow jets. Ethanol is a real problem with small jets.
Good luck

Run a couple tanks of good heavy doses of the Sea-Foam.. Ride the bike at the point where the engine starts to run smoothly, then, back down slowly.. Ride it where it is running poorly until it starts to clear up then slow down some more.. If it doesn't clear up after several tanks,, then,, its time to get your hands dirty..
