Denise and I took off Saturday morning just to get away for a while. We headed down 59 to 288 and then to 35 to run the coast to Corpus Christi. We stopped in Bay City at a market on the square to cool off and spend some money. Then on to C.C. to try and find our motel, after two trys to locate it we gave up and stayed at a Hampton Inn instead. Next day got up and road the shoreline drive down and crossed the bridge at the south end to get on the island. We ran the lady on the beach for a short while but  return to the pavement because  two up in the sand isn't much fun. We rode back north crossed the ferry and returned to the mainland, about a 55 mile loop. Then we toured the USS Lexington for about 4 hours. I was TAD to the Lex in the early 70s so this was kind of neat to come back to but, they had changed it some to make it safer and more tourist friendly that I had to keep telling Denise what it was like when it was in service. After a late lunch we fired the lady up and decided to make a run to Lockheart Tx for the night and some BBQ it was about135 miles so we arrived at about 8pm got a room at a Best western motel and went to get some grub. Blacks BBQ was closed aready so we ended up eating some great BBQ at The Chisomtrail restaurant  then back to the room and pool for some R&R.     Monday we rode to San Marcos to the outlet mall(not my idea, just kidding) and killed a few hours and so more dollars were put back into the system for granddaughters    goodies and some stuff for Travis our son.. Then we returned to Lockheart to get BBQ at Blacks this time. What a neat place same family run business since 1932 and the food was wonderful. We left Blacks and rode to lake Bastrop to tour the lake and try to find a cool place and rest a spell. After cooling and resting we decided to head home.It was about 6pm and the temperature had come out of the triple digits so we turn the valk toward home and like a rented horse headed to the barn and hammered it home. Three hours  later the valk was in the garage and we were home.  we rode 820 miles  in three days in the south Texas wind and heat and   it took alot out of us but we had a great time.    I'll try to post photo later. Cool

Wishing you a belated Happy Birthday!

Sounds like a great trip.  I'm sure the USS Lexington brought back lots of interesting memories.   cooldude

BTW, and not to hijack the thread, but, which DS tire are you currently running?
