Brake Pads?
«

Hey Guy's, I just got done installing new tires and serviceing the rear end of my 99 Valkyrie and noticed the brake pads front and rear are getting thin. Seems like factory ones are around $40.00 per caliper. I've seen some after market ones for $20.00. Also I see Kevlar, Ceramic, Sintered, semi metallic. Any advice you could give would be welcome! Thanks in advance! Cliff

Stick with OEM pads. Many people, myself included, here have had issues with other pads...mainly squealing

EBC and other
hard
pads do more than squealing, they eat the rotors which are way more expensive than brake pads. Aftermarket
organic
and other
soft
pads may be fine, but OE pads are generally best with OE rotors.

spend the money...pads are much cheaper than rotors...
"There's no free lunch" and "you get what you pay for" (in most cases..and all other cliches that apply).

The most "rotor friendly" pads are organic.
All other pads will eventually wear the rotors out! OEM or (aftermarket other than organic).
Although organic pads may not be as good a stopper as OEM or (aftermarket other than organic) you will not under normal circumstances, notice much difference and you will
definitely be saving your rotors

Thanks for the replies, I'll stick with OEM, I just wanted to check if there was anything the group has found that was better! Love this site for the information and saveing time and money.

When I bought my '97 the previous owner had put sintered pads on the front. Impressive stopping power but I hated the noise the pads made – always seemed to be a loud scrapping sound when riding and it sounded like the front wheel was coming off when the front brake was applied. Switched back to OEM and problem was solved.
