Hello, I am rebuilding carbs and noticed that two of the pilot jet screws or idle mixture screw "tips" were broken off in the carburetors.  Any suggestions on how to get the broken tips out of the carburetors?  Or is it time to drop some cash on carbs?  Thanks.

Are the screws made of ferrous metal? See if a magnet will pull out the broken parts

I believe the pilot screws are made of brass.  Two are broke off and stuck in the carb housings tight.  There is no access to get to the back side to push back out and nothing to get ahold of to pull out.  I guess it is time to drop 350 for a set of used carbs on eBay.  Was just hoping some one might have run in to this before and had a suggestion.  Never thought something the diameter of a sewing needle by 1/8 of an inch long could cause such a head ache.  Thanks any way.

Mt first thought would be a bit of carburator cleaner  for awhile then as strong a vacumm as you can generate.... but if they were froze tight enough to twist off... I don't know...

Well, if they were broken off (because they were frozen in) while trying to unscrew them,

then I would say you are alright with them as they are!

Just no adjustment will be possible with them.

They were, I'd assume, pretty well adjusted to begin with and I would not worry about only two carburetors.

Seems a waste to buy a whole carburetor assembly for this!

If you heat up the area were the brass tip is broken in in the carb and then take a blow gun and blow from the inside of the throat of the carb were the needle is stuck it should blow free.  Just be carefull not to. Over heat it. A small beutane torch works the best. I had the same problem with a set of carbs and three out of four came out fine.  The holes are tapered so you have to blow from the inside. Good luck.

Now heating up and blowing air is not a bad idea!  Wish I had gotten that reply prior to ordering carbs!  Oh well I guess I will have some spare parts laying around.
I will try that and if it works maybe resell the carb set purchased.
Any thoughts on desmoging while I have all this torn apart'?
I have considered desmog but not sure if I want to fix what is not broken. Has anyone had any negative issues with desmog "non California emissions bike"?  Is there any performance gain from desmog?
Thanks to all suggestions fellow riders!

If just the taper is broken and 'stuck' in the bore, then air should have been able to push them out along with some carb/choke cleaner. I thought I mentioned that.
De-smog will not increase mileage or power. It just saves future headaches.
