Hey Ghillie,

I'm not sure what you mean.  Are you looking for the guard rails for hard bags?

I'm pretty sure this is what he is looking for.

I would prefer this, but the other would work. I bought a set of OEM Hardbags without realizing I had to have rails to mount them. So I am looking for a cheap fix till I can afford to pick up a set of rails.

I'm confused!  You said you need soft bag guards to mount the OEM hardbags you bought.

Rails just look pretty and keep scratches off of the expensive bags, I think you need the OEM mounts for the hard bags.

No, I need soft bag guards to mount soft bags. I need Rails and Pans to mount the hard bags. I was told in the tech forum that I had to have the rails and pans which I thought was odd. IF it is just mounting hardware, please tell me. If ya can point me to a parts list that would be awesome. If someone in the Dallas/Ft Worth  area had guards, I have a set of cheap throw overs to use till I get the hard bags mounted. Otherwise I can order a set. Seems like alot of ya'll have leftovers and spares laying around so I thought I would ask.

I saw a bike at InZane where the above mounts (HONDA OEM softbag mounts is what I think those are) were used to
mount some nice Kawasaki Vulcan hard bags to a Valkyrie. He did a nice job of it, and I think if you do a good enough job
to end up with something that is usable, you might not consider it to be temporary. Of course, since Vulcan hard bags and
Valkyrie hard bags are very different, you might find it doesn't work at all... I can't imagine doing it without drilling holes
in the Valkyrie bags... blegh... Probably your best bet is to wait to find OEM mounting hardware... it goes on eBay fairly
regularly for $200-$250...

These just went for $214 (the guy sold the pans separate for around $20...

These (mounts and rails) just went for $535...

So... the OEM hard bag mounts and OEM hard bag rails are different things... Both of these Valkyries
have OEM hard bags mounted with OEM hard bag mounts, one of them has OEM bag rails...

Hi Ghillie,

I don't have any extra parts or assemblies, but what you are looking for are commonly referred to as mounting hardware or stay system for your OEM saddlebags (hardbags).

This link to the parts fiche will show you (in way too much detail) what your looking for.  http://www.hdlparts.com/fiche_section_detail.asp?section=148968&category=Motorcycles&make=Honda&year=2000&fveh=3479

Good job, hubcap.

I paid $300 for a really nice set of mounting hardware about 15 months ago.  All I did was remove the 4 little rubber pieces from the guards, media blast them, spray them with black bedliner, and replace the 4 little rubber pieces.  $214 is probably about right (or at least makes me feel better Wink) considering the HDL price on the guards is $43.65 each.

$535 for mounting hardware AND bag rails is a real find - even if they aren't perfect.

Dave, Thank you very much for that explanation. Until I saw the two side by side, I didn't realize I was looking at two different things. Thought I was looking at OEM and aftermarket versions. I still want the guards for the soft bags if anyone has em. Since I just invested $550 for a set of OEM hard bags, I will keep looking for a set of mounting hardware now that I know what I am looking for.
