For those that switched to carraige bolts for the rear fender, did you do anything with the carriage bolt square shoulder-like grind it to the same diameter as the bolt? Or did you just let the shoulder be the stop against the fender.  Or does the square fit inside the fender hole?

Thanks.

Those little shoulders under the cap are there for the bolt to dig into and hold while being tightened.

They were originally designed for wood, but they will work on just about anything.

I'd say it is optional to grind them down.

Try one before ya grind on it to see if it sets correctly, if it does then forget the grinding.

I never ground mine.   Now that MGM is a Trike, it don't matter as the fender is all intact in the back garage.

Thanks, RJ... Yeah, I was aware of the purpose of the square shoulder and for that reason, I didnt want to crack the fender if the hole was smaller than the shoulder. Once I get the carraige bolts home, I guess I'll know if I need to grjnd or not. Appreciate your help.

Thanks all, appreciate your input. I don't know why I keep thinking the rear fender is fiberglass, hence my fear of cracking it. Now that I've again removed it and seeing it's metal, I can see why you left the shoulder bolts intact. I did run mine around the bench grinder just a couple times to knock the corners off the shoulder. The carriage bolts then went into the holes nicely and bottomed
against the heads of the bolts.

My car tire install is almost complete. Yokohama Avid Envigor 205/60R-16. Doing an Interstate with bag rails, etc sure takes a lot longer than Daniel Meyer's tech sessions--and that's with the quick drop kit.

That's good to know, thanks. I figured the mod was easy enough and it's done so no worries. Take care.
