I "think" that Ford built the AWD Aerostar extended personal van for only a couple of years.

So, here is my question: Has anyone here owned one?

I'm specifically interested in the "reputation" of the AWD (all-wheel-drive) system.  I have owned a '95 with a 4.0 V-6, standard rear wheel drive since new and it has been all but flawless.  However, I've got a chance to pick up another '95 (one owner) that seems to be almost like new.  I'm just a little worried about that AWD system.

They made the AWD for quite a few years. I had a 96 AWD and loved it. I looked all over for another when I wore out the 96, and could not find one with less than 200,000 miles. Mine had 260,000 miles on it when I hit a couple of deer with it. Thought just body damage, and was a long way from home. Turned out to have a broken trans cooler, and fried the tranny on the way home. Made it OK, but would not back up the next morning. Anyway, Just normal maitanance the whole time I owned it, and drove it for everything. Pulled my 20' pontoon for almost 10 years. Still did not burn oil between changes, and VERY good on gas. Broke my heart to sell, but still got 600 dollars even with a bad tranny. Oh, and you and just forget about the AWD system, as it will work until you get rid of the van cooldude

Thanx for the quick reply!  I got a chance to read your post just before going over for a test drive.  The van needs a though cleaning & some TLC, but drove good and stopped smoothly (sold by second owner, who only had it 3 months).  I hadn't been able to find anyone that had any experience with this particular AWD van, so your post put me much more at ease.
Thanx again
