I'm loosing my fricking mind attempting to install my alternator. I screwed up by not installing it as we were puting my new motor in and now it is become my white whale. PLEASE if anyone knows any tricks to get this thing in I would be much abliged. It's a 99 Interstate and I have the center pannel removed to make more room.

Hold the alt up to the bike as if it's installed. As you look at it. The top tilts down and back into the frame. Patience and a bit of wiggling will find the exact position. It's usually easier to hook up the wiring before install too. (Unhook battery first)

YOU WILL learn new and exciting curse words BEFORE it is installed correctly.  2funny I tried the install with the wires hooked up(BATTERY DICONNECTED)and fought it like that for too damn long.  crazy2 Took the wires off and slid in relatively easy.  uglystupid2 Time patience and sooner or later it will go in.  Wink If you have somebody close that has already done the altenator R & R that would make it a tad bit easier.  cooldude Good luck with it and RIDE SAFE.

When I did the brushes on my 98 Tourer the alt didn't want to go back. I remembered I had to tilt it for removal so I tried to copy how it came out and it slid in easily. Sandy explained it better that I did.
