I have a 2002 Valk Standard with ab0ut 10,000 miles. Had my check up done and all was cool. Didn't ride it much over the past few months ..... now got it out today - started her up - runs good. I go to put it in gear and whamo - it dies. clutch feels soft. Checked fluid and it's ok. Can't figure it out. Any ideas out there as to what it could be ??

Was your kick stand down?

If not, check the cutout switches at clutch lever and kickstand.

Did the engine just quit, or did it CHUNK into gear and die? If it just died, it could be the sidestand switch; if it tried to engage it could be the rivets on the pressure plate.

Tie the clutch lever all the way down to the bar overnight, see if that releases some trapped air.

Letting the bike sit for that period of time can cause the clutch plates to bind together.

Working the clutch lever while rocking the bike if first gear might free up the plates.

Usually just popping it in gear (motor running) with the lever fully pulled to the handlebars will free them up.

Although trying this with a cold motor might not work too well. Warmed up would be beneficial.

My valk does that every once in a while, if you start it in gear it breaks the disc's loose, if it starts in gear it eliminates the switches as a problem.

I did chunk like it went in to gear. Then I had to take the lever off - manually push in the little brake rod (1 inch rod) to release the tranny so I could get it back in neutral.

Thanks everybody for the replies. I went ahead and took my baby to the doctor. Fixin to take a trip and don't want any problems. Can't cost much to fix it - I hope ............
