She had been passing large amounts of blood with each visit to the BR, was very sick two days ago and I urged her to let me take her to the ER. The "stiff upper lip" said no...for now. She lost enough blood that any movement on her part made her dizzy and vision became cloudy, I threatened to toss her over my shoulder and take her in if she had another spell. Well, all that night she was up and down and finally yesterday morning she woke me up about 6:00am and said we should probably go to the hospital. When she suggests it, you know it has gotten worse...which it did. I was in the ER with her for seven hours, came home yesterday afternoon about 2:30 and it wasn't until about 4:30pm she finally got a room. I went back to see her last evening, she's very weak, very dehydrated, not quite as sick as the day before but it comes/goes. Was with her about three hours midday today, Monday, and she had another bad spell. So far, the doctors aren't sure what's causing it but are leaning toward something like colitus...."but we aren't certain." She had this 7-8 yrs. ago and we almost lost her then, would have if I hadn't insisted on going to the ER. Back then, the drs. never really figured out the source of the trouble. They all say the symptoms are that of colitus or diverticulosis, but it doesn't seem to be responding to the normal treatment for that. I'll be going back up to see her around 6:30 this evening, hopefully the drs. group will have been in to talk to her. I had waited earlier in hopes they would come in as one said they would, but never showed. She really doesn't have the physical stamina to withstand much of this, much less stamina than 8 yrs. ago and it worries me no end.
I'll post developments along the way.

She had a fairly good day today until after I left this evening. Then was hit with four episodes in under an hour. She had one bad spell while I was there, takes a lot out of her since she's not very strong anyway. The gastro-intestinal dr. came by while I was there, I was undewhelmed by him and his bedside manner. We had words, a discussion between two people and he came in about fifth. Very abrupt, rather curt at times, would ask a question and with Rita being very weak her voice was hard to hear. After he cut her off 2-3 times I sorta got in his face; "you ask a question, you wait for an answer. If you don't want an answer, don't ask the question. Very simple, even for a doctor" He got rather disgusted with me and finally changed his approach. As he walked out he told her he would see her tomorrow, probably in the afternoon. I asked when he was scheduling the colonoscopy. His answer; "tomorrow afternoon like I said." Whoa sport. I quickly reminded him that he had not said anything about the procedure for tomorrow, had only said he would be back to see her tomorrow. "Well, that's what I meant." Fine....then say what you mean. Do you get the feeling I don't like this clown? We'll see how he acts tomorrow and if it doesn't change, he's history. She doesn't need some ham fisted fool messing with her. My experience with most people is that if they're rather curt or abrupt in conversation, most often they operate the same way when put to the test. Ain't gonna happen here!

John, Just saw this tonight. Prayers being sent for both Rita and you from both Vivian and I. I hope the Docs figure out what is needed. No need for me to tell you what to do with the G.I. Doc - you can more than hold your own with anyone. Please keep us posted on the progress and let us know if there is anything that we can do to help. We will keep both of you in our prayers.

Got her home about 7:00pm. When she first was rolled out of the hospital, she took a deep breath and said aaaaahh! Hates that hospital smell, so do I. The one thing she wanted was a kiddie cone from Jeremiah's, soft vanilla....the look of ecstasy on her face told the story. She's quite weak yet, the drs. at first thought they might have to give her a transfusion because she had lost so much blood. However her system eventually responded good enough so they decided against it. I was told they don't like to give blood unless absolutely necessary, glad they made that decision. Now, it's just a waiting period, she still has some antibiotics to take but the last 24 hrs. has seen a major change so I'm encouraged. Needless to say, I won't be taking any rides for a while. I want to thank all of you for the support shown on this board, the Florida "family" means a lot to both of us.

She was exhausted last night, slept from about 11:30pm until 10:00am, almost without any disruption. She only got up once and went right back to sleep....something she usually can't do. Normally, once she's awake in the morning, that's it....can't get back to sleep so gets up. Still pretty shaky this morning but was able to eat a little breakfast before taking a drugstore inventory of meds. I slept pretty good myself, funny how we react to that person not being there.

We will continue to keep you both in our prayers. We hope that Rita continues to improve. We also believe in the healing power of love, and enough of that is radiating Out from you that Rita can't help but get better. I've said this before, but you are an inspiration to us. Thanks!

Have been gone from the board for over 5 months, life has been busy here. So glad Rita is home and improving!!!! Since moving to Maine there are always a group of riders I keep in my mind from home. You and Rita are 2 of the special ones! My thoughts and heart are with you both. The strength you 2 have in each other has more than proven itself in pulling each other out of the rough times. Judy also sends her prayers to you. She also knows of you both from putting up with my babble Be strong!
