Hi,
I purchased and Interstate fairing to put on my GL1500. What a nightmare. The wiring harness is very different. The rear part of the harness it pretty much complete. The front where the handle bar controls are, it's a whole different can of worms. Has anyone attempted this ever? Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

Its a must to get the wiring diagrams.
The harnesses as you have found out are completely different.
I had to rewire the rear harness when I went from a Standards rear fender to an ISs.
Wasn't a big deal for me but the diagrams do and will help ALOT.

I have the Clymers book it was very helpful.

I don't have any bags, or truck. When you rewired your new bags, did you have to cut and splice?  Or did you have to get different factory plugs?  I think my main problem is the handle bar controls. I was looking on a diagram for an Interstate, and the control wires are different than my GL. I guess I need to know if I purchase the Interstate handle bar controls that will fix the most of my front end wiring issues. I hate to spend the money, and find out it isn't going to work.

Might be easier to buy an IS harness from eBay and swap em out.

I added an IS fairing to my STD. I went in thinking I would need the IS harness to do this. The two harnesses are very different. I used the HDL site that shows the harness to sort out issues along the way. There are some sub harnesses I had to buy. You need the IS speed sensor from the front wheel. I had to change out my handle bar controls for IS ones to get the plugs to match. The kick stand switch was different. My 98 needed a newer temperature sensor.

I had my bike torn down for paint so it made it easier to swap in the harness. I also added the trunk, radio, and CB. I sold off some of my un-needed items to help fund the project. The tach, speedo, head light bucket, and windshield to name a few.

I have seen some use the IS fairing and keep there STD/Tour tachometer and speedometer.
