I’m wondering anyone else has done this? I’ve just completed a de-smog on my 2000 California model and I’m wondering if I can get away with pulling the evaporation system.  The way I see it this would mean:

1.   Pulling the six purge tube hoses at the top of the carburetors and plugging the lines at the carbs.
2.   Eliminating the EVAP CAV Control Valve
3.   Eliminating the EVAP Purge Control Valve
4.   Rerouting the vent line from the number 6 carburetor directly to fuel tank
5.   Placing an in-line air filter (crankcase filter) in place of the EVAP CAV control valve, between the two air vent hoses.
6.   Eliminate the Evaporation Canister and all associated hoses.

If this is doable, I’m also wondering what I might expect in the way of related adjustment that will be needed following this work.  I’ll be off line for a number of hours so will not be able to respond for a while if you have questions.  Thanks in advance for you input.

My California 03 has the air filter you mentioned, everything else is gone. The lines at the top of the carberators are capped off. The only thing I did not like was the petcock vacuum coming off a "T" from the #3 and #4 carb intakes.

If you are riding  and it is a must that you keep your eyes on the road, you are riding too fast.

Nope, bikes currently apart for maintenance.  That's my daily route to work in Richmond though.

Yeah thanks for bringing that up Red Diamond, I was wondering if anyone has tried adding a T on 6  instead.....  Or whether  it needs (3 and 4) combined in order to pull enough vacuum to operate the petcock?  Do you, or anyone else, know if that's the standard for all the bikes with the stock petcocks?
