2000 Valk I/S

Atlanta, GA

« on: April 17, 2013, 05:15:10 AM »

I have managed to strain my patella tendon somehow (of all things) and now have trouble using just the toe shifter on my new '00 Valk I/S. Plus, with a decent pair of riding boots, I sometimes have problems getting my toe under the darn thing anyway. Has anyone installed a heel-toe shifter on their Valk? How do you like it? Does the floorboard drag on turns?

This is the one I am considering and would sure appreciate some experienced feedback.

MC Enterprises Floorboards W/ Heel-Toe Shifter

Thanks,

I have installed the MC Enterprise Floorboards and Heel-Toe shifter on my wife's Tourer.  Personally...I have it...but I have not ridden her bike enough to get used to it.  She also has a few complaints about it but hasn't asked me to take it off.  So, I guess the complaints aren't that bad.  Below are a few things we don't like about them.

1)  They sit lower than the stock pegs...this reduced the lean angle of the bike (meaning you will scrape the boards sooner than with the stock pegs.
2)  The space between the stock shifter and the back shifter is too small for a size 10-11 boot.
3)  The boards are a bit loose fitting in the bracket.  They just seem to have a lot of slop in them.

I am not trying to dissuade you from your purchase, just offering up my feelings on the matter.

Just my opinion and experience.  I had one of these M/C Ent. heel/toe floorboards and paid a good chunk of change for it.  It is die-cast alum., poor quality on machining one side drooped and the rear peg for the heel stuck out too far. It got caught on my pant leg and almost dumped the bike twice. I took it off and threw it away. I then went to rattlebars heel/toe and bought Cobra floorboards and never been happier. Actually they together were cheaper and excellent quality.  Just my experience!!!!

I think the two most desirable shifters out there are the Rattlebars and the Kuryakyn, the kury being no longer produced, if you can find either, they are costly. A friend of mine has floor boards and the Kuryakyn shifter that he likes a lot. I don't care for floor boards, so won't pass an opinion on the combination, I do have the Kuryakyn shifter though.

Thanks to all for the feedback. I will begin my hunt for a used rattlebar (they have retired) and a set of cobra floorboards. Worst I can do is switch back right?

I have the Cobra floorboards with the Rattlebars shifter and relocation kit on my Interstate.  They work great for larger feet (14).  The floorboards do drag easier because of the relocation kit, but not that bad for me.  But before I was able to get the shifter and relo kit, I had the Cobra boards with a CBR1100 shifter that was longer than the original and also was curved to the outside for easier shifting.

Got the kuryaken wing type floorboards. If can call them floorboards. And the rattlebars heeltoe shifter on my 01 I/S. If ever get rid of my Valk I hope to remember to keep the shifter. Took a little adjusting but works like a charm for around 80k miles now.

I hab heel-toe shifts on my Honda CM400 & ACE Tourer, love them, got used to them really quick.

Bought it for my Valk IS, believe it was the MC, but it on the bike Friday, then took it off Monday. Hated it. Hadn't had so many blown shifts since I took up riding again.

After it's removal and further contemplation, I feel it was the rubber on the OEM Valk shifter that was causing it to hang up and made for the bad shifts.

Thanks for all the great feedback. I decided against the MC kit after reading negative reviews about the function and quality of the parts. I decided on a Rattlebars Kickshifter on ebay. And if that doesn't work out, two members here have offered me one I can buy from them. Plan to use the Cobra boards to go with it. Not going to have them in time to ride the Tail of the Dragon next weekend though......

I had the rattlebars shifter on my first valk and loved it. It was the first item I added to my second Interstate. If you're lucky enough to buy one, you'll be used to it in about....5 shifts--and you'll wonder how you got along without it.

+1 on Cobra floor boards and Rattlebars Kickshifter. I have that setup on my IS and I could not be without them.
USED one on evilbay:

I have a Rattlebars shifter and peg relocation kit, not yet installed. Do you need floorboards or would it work ok with the oem pegs?

It will work with pegs.

You might like the kick shifter better with floorboards.

Thank you Willow. I'll give it a try with the pegs first.
