I got bored and decided I was tired of forgetting my garage door opener so I made a small push button garage door opener. Nothing fancy but it get the job done and I wont forget it anymore. Here are some pics to enjoy.
Here is the garage door opener I used.

Open it up and here is the circuit board.

Take out the circuit board and jump it to see which pieces of solder open your door.

Grab two pieces of wire...

Solder the wires to the circuit board

I drilled two little holes on the side of the opener and put the circuit board back in the cover to protect it.

Here it is with the switch installed.

Now mounted on the bike. I decided to go with the coolant recover tank cover but I suppose you could put it wherever you wanted.

Very cool! I need to pick up a second remote and fix one up. Was it just trial and error with the jumper wire till you found the right connection?

Yeah just trail and error, I ended up hitting the right ones the first shot.

I did much the same thing quite a few years back. Opened up an old unit we had, found where the bar you press made contact and soldered wires to each contact. Cut a small notch in the side and ran the wires to a momentary switch down near the seat release key hole. As I come down the street, I just reach down and press the button, the door is open by the time I hit the drive.

A while back, a friend of mine was watching while I was doing some cleaning with the seat removed. I have the opener just laying on top of the battery cover. He pointed to it and asked if that was a garage door opener, which I answered in the affirmative. I watched as he stood there just staring at it and I knew what he was thinking. Finally he said "that's a little inconvenient isn't it?"  I told him "not really, you have to be quick though." I then asked him to hand me the key that was still in the seat lock, and when he reached under there I told him to press the black button. I swear, he jumped a foot when the garage door started to go down. He felt a little foolish afterward, and I had a little fun with him.  Evil

Small momentary switch from radio shack, some heat shrink tubing, and a black zip tie.

I needed a opener with 2 garage doors and a community gate opener. A lot of autos have a three button opener impeded in in the driver sun visor or in the overhead console. If I remember correctly these are HomeLink units and are modular.....meaning you can remove them fron the visor and end up with a unit about 2x3x.5 inches, add a small 12 volt camera battery (get a small plastic box and battery holder from Radio Shack) Could wire it to the bikes 12v system or replace the 12v battery about every 6-9 months........Now I can do both garage doors from 1/2 a block away but the community gate needs to be within about 50 feet. Velcrow'ed it to the I/S pod and within easy reach. Just lean down and puch the desired button.
