Tool to Adjust Rear Shock Preload Settings
«

My new to me 2001 Valkyrie Standard (black with silver stripe) is missing its tool kit. I think that I already have everything I really need except the specialized tool that is used to stiffen or unstiffen the preload setting depending on weight being carried. What is the generic name for such a tool? Can I buy one in an automotive store? What setting is recommended for a single rider of about 220 lbs?
Thanks for advice on this,

This is the tool kit that was in my 98 Tourer #4 is the shock adjuster.
This drawing came from HDL they might still sell the tools.
Yes they show a similar kit. The spanner is #6 for $6.26
006 SPANNER, PIN 89202-MT3-000 001 $8.13 $6.26

Tool kit should be behind the battery under the seat. By chance did you overlook it?

Thanks for the good word which is "pin spanner" --the shock adjusting tool. The previous owner removed the manual and tool kit to make room for a baby compressor that powers the air horns.

If you get someone to take the weight off the rear wheel you might be able turn them by hand. Mine weren't that difficult.

It is however, extremely unforgiving of: inattention, ignorance, incompetence or stupidity.

If you dealt directly with the PO why not contact him to see if they are still available. If not, you maybe able to buy a complete kit off e-bay for about $25. The kit, if complete will give you just about every tool you will need to perform normal maintenance tasks. I picked up a second tool set just to have for the garage tool box instead of using the one under seat. They are handy to have when needed.
