I pulled the tank yesterday and checked the filter. I noticed that the tank leaked fuel the entire time it was off the bike even though the petcock was verified off. It did seem to stop after I reconnected the vacuum line. The petcock should be absolutely zero fuel flow when turned off correct?

Absolutely zero flow, on, off, or reserve. Should spew out like water our of a four inch pipe if
on or reserve, when vacuum is applied.

Get the rebuild kit (Cover Set) and fix it for $20.  I rebuild mine every 3 yrs or so just to be safe!  When it leaks (or if you forget to turn off your Pingle) you are at high risk for hydrolock, which is very expensive!

Never heard reports of a Pingle leaking.  If you're worried about forgetting to turn it off, do one of two things:  1) buy the vacuum operated Pingle.  2) Become manic about turning it off.
I chose option 2.
Of course, you could also do both options 1 and 2, but I didn't want any diaphragms in there that could fail.  I would rather be my own safety, and know that it hasn't failed over time.

In mys case I am a safety just waiting to fail. Think I will eventually do the electric shutoff.
