I have a 2000 Valkyrie Standard with about 70K on the clock. I was riding today and on my way home, I was about two miles from home when my drivetrain went south. I turned a corner, accelerated, and it was pulling away smoothly when all of a sudden I heard a sound like grinding gears and it quit pulling. I am guessing either the splines are gone on the drive shaft or the u-joint broke. The weird thing is I heard no unusal noises up until it blew. I have a bad heart and can't do much of anything so have to have all work done at a local shop. I always remind them to lube everything at each tire change but who knows if they do. I want to know if we have any Valkyrie club members within a 100 mile radius who could do the needed repairs. I would rather pay someone who owns a Valkyrie and knows by experience how to do the job. I'm just outside of Mt. Vernon,  IL, which is about 80 miles southeast of St. Louis, MO.

my guess is the pinion cup.

mine did it 200 miles from home, always had the local honda dealer do the tire installs, mean the rear end should have been lube every 8-10k miles.

Well it was lube with Moly lube, which plugged the journals and the drive line stripped out the pinion cup.

I go a new drive shaft, seal and pinion cup... figured from now on.. if you want it done right better do it yourself or watch over whom ever you trust... with a 6pk..

Hopefully just the U-joint. Mine went just that quick a few weeks ago, pretty easy fix...

Hey Hef,

I am close to your 100 mile radius (Arnold, MO)...and would be willing to help you out as best I could.  I have a u-joint, drive shaft, and pinion cup in my garage.  Drop me an email at JoeValkIS@Spirit-1100.com and let's see what we can do.  Unfortunately, my only free day right now is Saturday.  If it is one of the parts listed above, then it won't take but a couple of hours to turn this around.  If not, it will be a couple of weeks (due to work commitments).  But it is ok if you leave the bike with me.

I'll bet a fair bit of brew that it's a drive shaft/pinion cup.  Since I am so familiar with that. Roll Eyes Undecided
