Trying to replace pads and I can't get the sloted set screw out. Tried , big screw driver, impact driver. Don't want to drill or easyout unless----. Rear comes out easy, don't need rear pads, need front pads.
Any suggestions?

did you remove the calipers first or try to remove the "set screw" If you removed the calipers, put them back on its much easier on the bike

Impact driver didn't work !? Hmm, add some heat and try it again. Then never-seize will help after that.

Probably too late, but a good fitting screw driver is the most important part.
I bought a good screw driver and dedicated it for those screws only.
It has a square shank so I can use a small crescent wrench on it.
Big thing is to not tighten them when placing them back.
Snug does it best.

I had the same problem. Couldn't even get them with a drill and easy out (broke the easyout!). I wrapped a wet rag around the caliper to absorb the heat coming too far up the unit, heated the body of the caliper with a small torch (one step up from a BIC lighter) around were they screwed in, then attached a vise grip to the shaft. It eventually came loose. Replaced them with new bolts and some antiseize!

Had to weld a nut onto the boogered up set screw to get it out one time. Got a nut with an i.d. roughly the same size as the screw then used my MIG to weld it onto the set screw. Held the nut with the ground clamp to make proper ground. Probably was the heat of the weld as much as the extra turning power of the nut that got it out. New stock set screw with a generous coating of anti-sieze for the reassembly.
