Anybody have a front wheel handy? I need to know how wide it is from the outer surface on each side. I have a smaller(more narrow) GL1200 front wheel I'd like to mount on Valkyrie forks....if possible. I've adapted the Valk trees and forks to the 1200 and would like to use the 1200 wheel since I have to use the 1200 back wheel, be nice if the wheels matched! But I need to know how wide our Valk front wheel is which should probably include the right hand spacer in place if possible. It would involve running a tape measure through the center of the wheel for an accurate figure.

John;
I have a spare wheel w/o bearings or spacer. Putting the tape inside the axle space, I come up with 6-5/8" (six and five eights inches)
Hope this helps ya.

Thanks Hook, I'll now compare that with the 1200 wheel width. Need to see if I can use the 1200 unit with the Valk forks. One thing I found out last night is the splines on the six finger flange from the 1200 final drive fits in the Valk final. As you all know, the Valk's is a five fingered flange so can't use it with the 1200 rear wheel. Next problem....I think the axle shafts are different diameter. Oh well, what would a custom be without challenges?

I'm at work right now, but my front wheel is still off... There's the spacer on one side and the speedometer thing on the other... do you want the speedo thing in the measurement? -Mike

Hate to be a smart ass here, but don't you currently have a Valk that you can measure and compare?

Yup, sure do....with the front wheel still mounted for a ride tomorrow. With that in mind, I'd be interested in how to get an accurate figure, I surely can't run a tape measure through it and just laying one in between the spokes is like making a SWAG. All you can do then is eyeball it....not too accurate. I'm a bit surprised at the question, frankly.

They're the same for both bikes so not important.

I figgered this was a way to get an accurate measurement... You can see in this blurry picture that I put the speedo thing in and jambed my tape measure through from the other side and used the tab on the tape measure to pull the speedo thing in tight so there would be no error there... And here's the readout from the other side: -Mike

I would tend to think you will need a more accurate measurement than just using a tape measurement. Just looking out for you and not out to make enemies.
