After finding the final drive splines and driven flange destroyed in my new (97) bike, I decided to follow the steps Grumpy and Hubcapsc had explored with the "wing pressout fix"....  I did not want spend the money on a new gear set like Oklahoma_Valk, plus I liked the idea of keeping my original gearset together.  I found a Goldwing final drive on eBay that had a good picture of the splines, and bought it for about $50 with shipping. They packaged it well, but did not drain the gear oil,,,, still it got to me just fine.

I disassembled the wing unit and pressed the spline cup out of the ring gear,, no problem. It did make me jump as it came loose with a pop.

The favor of God was with me,, the splines were in perfect condition....

I then disassembled the valk unit and removed the ring gear assembly.

and pressed the spline cup out of it..

Mike in SC had found me a good driven flange from his trike guy and sent me one good enough to display with the fine china,,,,   Here it is with Moly Paste.

I assembled the drive and found that the ring gear spacer that had been in the valk 2mm (.079) gave me the proper clearance to get 3 or 4 thou. backlash.... I think if you change the entire gearset, you are much more likely to need an assortment to properly adjust it. As they warn in the service manual, you must be careful with the sealant in the top and bottom locating holes, as they provide passages to the seals, and for breathing... dont want to clog them. Just to push my luck I assembled the unit with the original spline seal as I did not feel it was damaged... we will see.

Thanks for all the help and insight on this project guys,, thanks Mike,,,  it is quite doable if you can get good replacement parts.  Finishing up the carbs, some cosmetic stuff and the exhaust,,, wont be long.

The next time my bike rolls down the street, it will have one of the finals that I refurbished
on it... If it doesn't explode right away, I plan to feel my final drive as soon as I get off for the
first few rides... if it seems OK and isn't getting hot it probably worked  cooldude

Yours looks good...

Bearings seemed good. I have the special tools listed in the manual, it was easy
to take the swingarm off, and to supposedly put it back with stuff torqued properly.
