Hello, as I mentioned in my other post: Gil commented that they met another Valk rider at Bikefest who was unaware of our Board. Initially I had trouble finding it, too, and so have others. When you go the VRCC main website, you easily find the FL Chapter website but not our Board where all the action is. To help combat that, I took the liberty of creating a Facebook page for the Florida Chapter, directing any viewers to the Board. It's not intended to take the place of the Board as I have disabled posting, it's meant only to function as a directional beacon. So maybe that will help new members find us. Let me know if you have any suggestions for the page. http://www.facebook.com/VRCCFlorida] http://www.facebook.com/VRCCFlorida

I don't understand what you mean about it being hard to find our FL Chapter Board. ??? When you go to the VRCC page at http://www.valkyrieforum.com/, click on "HOME", and scroll down to the Chapter Boards, it takes you right to the FL Board. Maybe I'm not understanding what you mean. ??? Sorry! While I appreciate your doing the Facebook Home Page, I for one would not click on anything that has "Facebook" in it's title. I am trying very hard to stay off Facebook, since I have had several instances where my address book got in-undated with birthdays, events etc. from anyone I've ever had anything to do with. My reluctance seems to be a bit of a "gender" thing. While my wife likes Facebook, I don't, and that seems to be very common within our circle of friends. Not trying to be negative, just don't understand the difficulty of find us on the main board.

Pete, as usual our likes and dislikes seem to parallel each other. My daughters were on "dad's" case about Facebook so I tried it for a few weeks. Like you, everyone in the universe suddenly wanted to "befriend" me, many I had no clue as to who they were. I finally gave up and simply canceled my account and never looked back. The girls, they love it....so be it. As for the purpose of what Valkchik is talking about, I'm OK with it. I've come across numerous riders over the years that have no idea of the existence of the VRCC. One of them was the local young man that bought the restored Valk I sold him a year ago. When I spoke of the VRCC, he knew nothing of its existence. He only knew about the Valkyrie as a result of a relative that had one and he was impressed. I sent him the link last Friday for future reference, he wants to join us in future rides....assuming his little daughter lets dad out of her sight. She's a little doll, brought her and his wife along when he bought the bike. Rita wanted to keep her.

Just sayin' that I won't be going to Facebook anytime soon, and I don't think my age has anything to do with it.

Pete, I'm sure Jeff didn't mean you were coming on in a negative way. I know I didn't, I just don't belong to it but I'm with you on using it to direct propective members to our site. I think it's a good idea, no question. As for showing our age, probably so.

Kind of contradictory I figure. On one hand you dismiss Facebook as an avenue for unwanted solicitations, then in the same breath consider it a "good idea" as advertisement to the site.
I for one, have found FB a resource to locate friends and colleagues I have not seen or heard from in decades. It has allowed me, and millions of others, to access like minded people, mutual interests, and information that we find interesting.
If a few "friend" requests from people I do not know are the only down side to the benefits I've realized then I'm willing to put up with it.
As an aside, me and my Captains find it an invaluable resource to remain in contact with our families when we are overseas.

I'm with ya Valkchik, and understand. If you do a search for VRCC Florida Chapter, you are directed to the "old" Florida board. There is no redirection to the "new" location, now here on the main VRCC forum site. If you were to tell someone, hey check us out on the Florida Chapter VRCC board, they won't find without further searching the main VRCC site that we all now enjoy, in the forum format. For us that don't do social media, ie facebook, twitter, as many "younger" or more socially active folks, facebook for many is the same as a search engine. I'd say good thinking Valkchik!

I will never get on Facebook for all the above stated reasons and unfortunately, it has a lot to do with my age and the fact that I don't want to be bothered with it!! I just think it's a good idea to promote this wonderful group of Valk Lovers.

I clicked on the facebook thingy link and got nothing. Not even a blank facebook page. I don't do facebook either. Just something else I'd feel like I'd have to keep up with that I haven't found a compelling reason to join. Have heard all the stories of broken marriages, stalkers and other ne're do wells trolling facebook. Sounds like one more pita to keep up with and deal with to me. Already had problems back in the late 90's when the internet was first taking off long before the facebook thing. Got a phone call one day out of the blue from a woman wanting to know if I was ever in the Marine Corps and ever stationed in North Carolina. I was in the Air Force and never stationed anywhere near North Carolina. Turned out she googled my name and called everyone listed on the internet she had found trying to find her birth father. Wife wasn't very amused. Not long after that phone call, an old girlfriend apparently googled my name and called everyone she found with my name untill she had found me. She called wanting to talk and talk and talk. I barely remembered her to tell the truth and found that conversation very awkward. Again, the wife wasn't very amused. Have not found a compelling reason and have no desire to do facebook. I don't care if anyone finds me or not. The people I want to find me know where I am.

Please note, if you go to valkyrieriders.com, then select regional boards ( http://www.valkyrieriders.com/Links/#message), then select VRCC Florida from the list ( http://www.valkyrieriders.com/fl/home.htm), then select Florida Board from that list, you go to the old board ( http://www.valkyrieforum.com/forum/vrcc_florida.cgi). Unless I'm mistaken, I think this is the problem Valkchik is discussing. Tex posted twice, very recently, to the old board so I assume he doesn't know about the migration to the valkyrieforum.com chapter board. I think I'll post on the old board that the Florida VRCC board has migrated and provide a link to the new board. Greg

Hi, all. Sorry I didn't post earlier to clear up confusion about Facebook but it looks like we had a lively discussion in the interim ... a great thing for a message board. Here's the Facebook page we're discussing (you don't need to be FB member to see): https://www.facebook.com/VRCCFloridaAs some have mentioned, Facebook can be a major pain when it comes to their advertising, privacy settings, etc. But you don't have to be a Facebook member to see our page. And for those already active FB users, it makes it easier to find us as they use FB for searching the Internet the way some people use Google or Bing. I want to stress that the FB page is not meant to take the place of this Board as all messages, events and photos will still be posted here on our Board. The only thing posted there is a link to our Board so they don't miss us. As Greg mentioned correctly in his post, I had trouble with some of the confusing navigation on the main VRCC website. Admittedly, I'm an impatient web user and expect things to be easy to find, but here's what happened to me: 1. Google search for Valkyrie groups and clubs. Immediately found the main VRCC website and clicked on chapter map to see Florida, which took me to a page that showed chapter reps and a webmaster. Not what I was looking for. 2. Then clicked on link for Regional Boards that eventually took me to an inactive Board. 3. After checking the Events on the main VRCC website and seeing no FL events, I assumed the Florida group was inactive, which was unfortunate since we had our bike for at least 6 months before finding other FL group members by chance, and one of them explained how to find the active Board. There are other Facebook pages for VRCC, but it is either for the main group or is mostly for riders in Europe. It is an easy matter to delete the FB page if our group deems it unnecessary, but I think you'll find it will exist as our silent partner to funnel new members our way. Thanks, all for comments. As always, I bend to the will of the people (our Valk people, that is).

As I stated in another thread, all one has to do is type in VRCC or "Valkyrie Riders" as a search word. That brings up a number of hits, and Valkyrie Riders Cruiser Club is one of them near the top. When you click on that, it brings up the "old" board. On that page just click on "General" at the top and it takes you to the new homepage the VRCC has been on for quite some time. You can scroll to the bottom to see all the state level chapters than have been switched over as well as the "main" boards. Once on the new main homepage, all you have to do is save it as a favorite. Next time you get on the 'puter, click on that favorite and up pops the new homepage as before, then choose your poison. And Xtracho....for the record, in my case it wasn't just a "few" that wanted to befriend me. By the end of the first week, the number was literally in the hundreds. Some I knew, most I didn't and could not have cared less of their existence. I would spend a lot of time cutting them all out of the page(I think you can block them), finally got disgusted with the whole scene and said "I'm out of here." Believe it or not, I do have a cell phone which my wife has to remind me to turn on when I leave the house, otherwise it would hardly ever get turned on. It's not one of those new-fangled ones, just a simple flip phone that takes calls and makes calls. I lived for most of my 75 yrs. without needing to refer to a cell phone in the form of a hand held computer, or even my old flip phone for that matter. So, for those that want everyone on this blue marble to stay in touch with them for an update on every BM, the Twitter or Facebook system is great. And, it's a great tool that can be used as Valkchik has done....kudos to her for doing so, I hope it increases our Florida membership ten-fold. For the rest of us, those systems are a PITA.

The problem isn't that current users end up at the old board and then don't know what to do, it's that new folks looking for the Florida VRCC board can easily end up at the old inactive board via two different links coming off of the ValkyrieRiders.com splash page.

That's it exactly, Greg. And some of us with digital ADD (myself included) are too impatient to search for very long on any given web page (an unfortunate consequence of the Digital Age). Thanks for clarifying.

That's mostly my point. If you type Valkyrie Riders as a search word and click on the fourth item down, it gives you the old board. Then either you go to the top and click on "General" or down the left side and click on "Message Board," either one will go to the new main homepage which has all the available sites listed....including the state chapters that have been changed over. Most have not at this time but under the first location mentioned above, just go to Regional Boards and find your area. Again, if someone is aware of the existence the Valkyrie club, it's easy to find us anywhere in the nation. If not, the Facebook page is a good backup.

If you happen to select Regional Boards from that same menu list, you will find Two Links there that say "VRCC Florida" and both take the user to the old, inactive board. If people knew the correct option to select to get to the new board, we wouldn't need this discussion.
