I've used this trick for several years and I thought I'd share this tidbit with others.

If your bike has Allens tha are a bit rusty in their hexagon holes, take a Q-tip or a small hobby brush and dap a bit of antiseize compound in the hole and wipe off the excess. It makes a big difference in the valve cover screws if you loose the rubber inserts. It also works on the Allens on the handlebar clamps and on the lower legs if you lose the chrome inserts.

Have fun!

I use bore solvent and a brass brush in a pistol cleaning rod.  Also great for brake caliper cleanups.

Good tip Momz. I find that I can go to a Harley dealers to get replacements for those lost chrome caps as they usually have a selection of sizes in both plastic and metal.

I prefer to take the more manly approach.  After removing the rust I apply clear fingernail polish. Stays put, is water resistant and doesn't yellow with nominal heat.
