Bike started running bad.  On inspection  I found #4 pilot screw laying on the  engine deck.  Could not tell if there was an O'ring inside.  Replaced pilot screw, bike is running good.

if that had been me, the pilot screw would be nowhere to be found.  You found it and that fixed the problem.....like I said.  That was good luck.

How long before it falls out again?

Did you not do anything but put it back.  How many turns?

I rode back over 50 miles after the bike started acting up.  The pilot screw,  the tiny washer  & spring  seperated, were all lying on the engine deck  in various locations.  I replaced it, turned pilot screw in until it seated, then backed  it out 2 1/2 turns.

The bike is desmogged so there is not much clutter there.  I could not tell with a mirror if there was an O'ring still in the pilot hole.

Guess I will have to keep an eye out.

You can get a set of six o-rings from "redeye' on E-Bay. I think about twelve bucks.

You need the o-ring to help keep the screw from turning out. The spring is an additional help for the same reason.

I think the current wisdom is about 1-1/2 to 1-3/4 turns on the screw.

The recommended 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 out from lightly seated is for carbs with 38 slow jets. I believe the recommended setting for the oem 35 slows is 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 turns out.

I recently changed to 38's on my 99 IS where the slow jets had never been touched since new and they were all 2 turns out. I just set them to 1.5 turns but haven't given it a test ride yet. Two turns with the 38's was definitely too rich.
