Is it possible to hook up an Interstate radio on a standard Valk?  I am not interested in the display or the speaker hookups or the am/fm tuning.  I want to use it as an amplifier with an iPod .  The radio has the auxiliary jack and the plugs for the handlebar mounted radio control switch and the headset cord which you can get on either eBay or HDL parts.  How would you hook up power to the unit?  Is it possible with the wiring harness on the standard Valk?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Only the IS has the correct connectors for the radio and it's controls.

Anything can be done. But would it be worth it?

Without the display, how would you know the radio is even turned on or off?

Is the radio on or the AUX, or the CB?

Did you have the speakers or the headset turned on?

I wouldn't bother.

Something like the Shark would give you all you need.

I posted about hooking up a marine radio to my Tourer. It has the inputs for the USB jump drive and AUX input.

It gets expensive.

Going to be expensive and hard to configure. Do a Google search for motorcycle or marine amplifiers, there's a ton of options out there, and not very expensive. I had a setup from these folks on my GL1100...

They also sell fairly decent speakers, or you could use a helmet headset (I use both) or ear buds if they're legal in your jurisdiction (they make my ears hurt after a while). The standard Honda Headset plug should be easy to find, and the pinout assignments are available to make your own hookup.

Go on ebay and do a search for StarCom1.  You will find them there pretty cheap.  Reason being is they are sold as a way to tie a cb, gps, mp3 and radar together in one headset.  Most of the time you can't get everything working because of ground loops but they work flawlessly as a way to amplifiy your mp3.  I hooked one up to a Star Warrior and ST1100.  Can't beat it for what you are wanting to do.

I installed the J&M speaker system on my Wife's Valkyrie and it  is Specifically for an I-pod. The speakers mount to the Brake and Clutch lever Brackets on the Handlebars . The  J&M Speakers are self Amplified,50-Watts each and come with everything to Plug & Play and they are Loud . When we pull up to a red light ,I may as well turn my Stereo on my Interstate OFF, because all I can Hear is her music. J&M  is the best system that I have found yet and I have had a few. They aren't giving them away , but if you want Quality, sometimes you have to pay for it and as far as I'm concerned , it is Money Well Spent.

If you want quality sound, IMHO  you can't beat a system built  around a fairing like the Woody's. I've got a Woody's batwing with a Kenwood head unit,  a Kenwood amplifier and 4 )5.25" kicker speakers. I've got some serious in your face quality sound. I get pretty good bass extension for 5.25" speakers.  When I'm going 70 mph,  I can feel  the kick drums and snare in my chest. I have a remote mounted to my leftside mirror stalk. I don't have stock mirrors. There are several head units that have wired or RF remote options. I just recently upgraded the system with the amp and kickers. I was originally running some inexpensive speakers that came with my Woody's fairing and  off the power of the head unit. The difference is beyond the classic " night and day " analogy.  cooldude
