I am happy to report that I will be riding up to meet Yuri (Ice) and Petra, and Andy and Biene from Germany Sunday.  cooldude Cheesy Grin

We plan to ride around that area some (maybe Skyline Dr and New River Gorge..) and may head further south. Anyone in the area want to hook up Monday thru... (?) next week let us know.

It will be great to see the Germans again, they are all very nice. Andy and Biene invited me to stay with them in Berlin when I went over for Werner's memorial service in 2011. They are awesome

And Ice heard I was trying to hook up with Andy while he is here visiting his mom and opened his home. What great people VRCC friends are, around the world.  cooldude Thanks Yuri and Petra!

See y'all Sunday.  coolsmiley

I think I'd like to jump in on this one if it's OK.

Just visited Yuri and Petra a couple weeks ago myself.

Hey Jess - when are you available to ride with us? We're still working out the details, but it should be fun. I hope the weather cooperates.  Wink

I think we are planning to ride from Yuri's Monday and Tues.. then who knows, probably further south, maybe TN, NC...

Gotta get out to Skyline Dr and New River Gorge myself eventually. (Don't they let you jump off a perfectly good bridge up thata-way?) http://www.officialbridgeday.com/  Roll Eyes
If you roll into E. Tn., holla, (865) 973-6179
Would love to see ya Brother!

Duffy/Yuri, I can ride any day Mon and thereafter (I'm retired).  Yuri & Petra will be full up with you guys so it takes me about 1.5 hr to get out to Winchester from Alexandria.  Would also like to tag along on your Southern route.  Are you solo, and would you share rooms/expense on the way down (I do not snore)?

At least at this end, the weather looks to be great all week, until the following Sat and thereafter.

Let me know your plans as they develop.

Funny story about that Bridge Day Whiskey. One of my sisters used to be an MD in Beckley. On Bridge Day each year, she would wait down in the gorge below the bridge and set broken bones as needed.  uglystupid2

Beautiful area.

We may ring you up when we get down toward TN, probably Wednesday. Plans pretty fluid at this point (at least as far as I know.)  Smiley

Sounds good Jess. And yes, I am solo so unless a better offer comes up ( Grin) that will work out fine.

Hey Guys, Petra and I worked out a great ride for Monday, from Winchester out to Black Water Falls via Seneca Rocks and along the Monogahela. As for Tuesday we thought the Skyline Drive route would be fun, seeing that Andy has not seen much of VA and this will offer him a birds eye view of the Valley, as for the way back its still a work in progress.... uglystupid2

Yuri, are you taking more time off work and planning to launch down South to TN/NC on Wed?
If I go on that trip, I am thinking I would pick one of the Mon-Tues rides (commuting from home), to get ready for the longer ride South.

If you only run down Skyline to Sperryville/211 exit, heading West on 211 (just past a bike dealer around Luray) Bixler's Ferrry to to Old Fort Valley Rd looping winding back up to 55 is a nice ride.  I know a fantastic little BBQ/seafood place for lunch in Sperryville, but it may be too early for lunch at that time.

For a longer ride, If you run Skyline to the 33 exit, head West thru Harrisonburg to Franklin WVa on 33, and back North on 220 to 50 East is always a great ride.   Know a great place on 220 for lunch too.

Well, Yuri, Petra, Duffy, Andy and Biene and I departed Winchester VA for a long WVa loop yesterday... Seneca Rocks, then up the mountain to Cacapon State park and Blackwater Falls.  We did not get any rain, we got a snowstorm.  Stopped in a nice custom coffee shop and took a break, and watched the heavy blowing snow with some humor.  It slowed, we got on the road, and it started again.  I've been in colder weather and in snow fluries before, but never ridden a motorcycle in a near whiteout blizzard that covered my windshield before.  Everyone lived.  Off the mountain and halfway home the sun came out and 50* never felt so good before.

Some had cameras and pictures may come later.  Andy had a video cam on his bike.

I know, I know........... I am a dumbsh!t.

However, having lost a bag lid/rack last fall (run over by a soccer mom on the C-phone) and got it all back together finally (incuding body shop work on the alleged mildly worn one from salvage), a new single Honda rack, mount parts, at around $600 total cost, I lost another lid on our monday ride, that was off the cables because I was swapping it back and forth between bikes. It was recovered and not FUBAR, but highly customized with road rage.  I now have them all back on and secured with cables so no more flying away.  Only a third of the road rage has buffed out, so that one probably goes back to the body shop (yes, I am a dumbsh!t   crazy2).

The long gutter on 2d story is about to fall off the house, and I need to fix it before that happens, since I am a one-man army.

I should have gone anyway, but being retired I can go anytime (but not usually with fellow Valk riders).

Hey Andy. Thanks a lot.

Well, I would probably enjoy any tape you have OTHER than my bag lid flying away (and me riding off fat, dumb and happy), but it's your call.   Grin

We checked out Hwy 16 from Beckley WV south today, what an experience!

Really it was two different rides, first Beckley south through Appalachian coal mining towns, very humbling and awe inspiring for me. Then over the dragon's back (I think that is what it's called) which is Tazewell to Marion, VA. What a ride we had. (More fun than the tail of the dragon because less traffic and longer road.) We did catch up to a car, but it pulled over and let us pass.  cooldude

Sorry Yuri, Petra and Jess missed it, we had a blast!

From Monday: Jess, Petra, Yuri (Ice), Andy and Biene.

In Marion tonight, going to the Snake tomorrow and maybe make it to Robbinsville. It's vacation, we'll get there when we can.  Cool

Thanks Andy, but I am in Mozilla Firefox safe mode (permanently) and cannot see anything requiring the Adobe Flash Player.

I will try to view it on someone else's computer when I get a chance.

I hope you and Biene had a nice visit/vacation.

auf Wiedersehen   cooldude
