Greetings y’all
I just bought a 2000 Valkyrie a month or so ago. Unfortunately it did not come with any of the maintenance records. So I am starting from scratch.
Oil/filter change, rear end and spline lube (picked up the o-ring set from Carolina Bike and Trike) got all that lined up for the weekend.

But I have a couple of questions.

The bike came with a 6 into 6 exhaust. Every where I have read says that the carbs should be re-jetted after this exhaust has been installed to keep the bike from running too lean. How can I easily tell if this has been done?

I have big feet and the bike has running boards. Can I bolt on a shifter from a Goldwing or other bike so I am not shifting with the side of the sole of my boot?
I am not interested in a heal/toe shifter.

Thanks
I am sure I will have more questions later

As for the shifter.  Maybe get a Peg Re-Location kit from Rattlebars?  That will drop the pegs 1".  Also lay down and look at the shifter arms.  There are 2 places where you can make some adjustments by moving the arms a few notches on the splines.  Just be sure you can still up shift without the peg hitting the valve cover.

 1. check your plugs...

 2. if you live near the mountains, you'll probably want to ditch the boards and put pegs back on...

The shifter can be adjusted up. Remove the lock bolt and slide the shifter off the shaft. Replace it up one spline and try that for your foot clearance. Also, you can get a shifter from a Honda XS1100. It puts the pedal out and up a bit. As for oil: Most use a synthetic. The best would have a JASO MA rating. One of the best quality filters is a Purolator Pure One PL14610.

Thanks for the input.

I checked the plugs today and referenced this page:
http://www.dansmc.com/Spark_Plugs/Spark_Plugs_catalog.html
All my plugs looked to be between an 11 to 19 on their picture scale.
And taking a hint from http://www.angelfire.com/nj3/terminalvalkocity/mechanic_linker2.html#soot
the little plugs are gone from my pilot screw holes so I guess someone did some work to the jets.
Runs great, good throttle response. I could get in trouble with the local LE real quick.
I had gotten worried because my pipes are straw to blue. I have read since that the Cobra 6 into 6 turns blue anyway.

Took the rear tire off to check the splines. Boy, I hope I never have a flat on the road. Takes a little creative engineering. I think a center stand is going to be in the works soon.
Thankfully there was some moly still left and the splines looked good, so I cleaned it up, replaced the o-rings, packed more moly in.

I should be good to go for longer rides, once the afternoon thunderboomers slow down a bit.
Last year we did nekkid rain dances for just a sprinkle. Guess it all caught up with us this year.

Y'all have a great 4th...

I also own the big bike things forward controls.
Great item once you get them bolted up and adjusted properly.
I wouldn't own a valk without them.
I believe I paid $290 including shipping, which isn't bad considering they come from the other side of the planet. Grin

Add a set of kury boards and you have one comfortable setup.

You can also move the shift lever one spline over,as the other member suggested.
I have a size 15 shoe,So I know where you're coming from.

If you don't like the floorboards I would be be into a swap of some kind for my stock pegs.

Not yet sure about the heal/toe shifter just yet. The first time I tried them I almost got myself in trouble and I was not even out of the dealer's parking lot yet. I am going to try a few things before I try them again.
I am going to keep the floorboards for now. Got a bum foot that does not like pegs. But I will let the board know if I want to trade them off.

Wanted to ride today. Instead it rained. Got a 1/4 mile of what is now mud for a driveway. Supposed to rain again tomorrow.

I run the cobra slant boards on mine.shifting w/ my #12 feet was tricky .so I welded one of the orig. pivot pins from the oe pegs to end of the shifter.put the rubber over the new pin.I also drilled and tapped the outer edge of the boards for the orig. peg feelers. If you do this, don't keep your toes under the shifter while dragging the boards or you may cause an unexpected upshift.     uglystupid2

I picked up some pegs for my heel toe shifter that are quite a bit bigger than the OEM shifter peg; that might give you a little better edge on shifting.  A $7.99 change-out...
