I'm gonna finally get towing and roadside assistance for my" fat girl" and my daughter's 750 shadow spirit. I live in New York. Do you know the best deal out there? I just need a little peace of mind and don't want to pay too much. Thanks, giff

For me it's only free with the AMA membership ($49/yr) since I have auto renew on the yearly membership with a CC....we both have it for our bikes.
I believe it's an additional $25/yr without the auto renew.

Wow, what a coincidence! I just signed up with AMA today! I've been checking out towing for bikes and the AMA was the best I found. it also covers towing for 35 miles,as oppossed to less than 5 miles from everyone else.

I've used it twice, both times for rear tire failures (before I went darkside). One time I had to wait a few hours but I was out in the boonies and the guy had to come 100 miles to get me. The other time I was three miles from a Honda shop and just five miles out of town. They were there in just 30 min. I won't travel without it any more.

I was in Ct FL this past Feb and a buddy picked up a screw in his rear tire. Tube, so no plug. Called AAA about ten times, no answer. Just kept getting a recording saying they couldn't take the call.
I rode back and got a truck.
Later, my buddy called them to give em crap and they were, of course, very sorry.

I've got both the Chevy Trike and MGM insured with AAA. It covers anything in my name no matter who is driving it.
I've only used it twice in 6 years.
Both times it was for a flat tire in my garage.
1st time they were there in 10 minutes. 2nd time it took them 3 hours, and then it was a NO SHOW. The dispatcher didn't get my address copied down right so they were looking for my vehicle in PA. After 2 hours I called back and she said the Tow Service said they fixed you up. I said I's sure like to talk to the Tow service, so she gave me a phone #. She rattled off some strange area code and a #. So, for orneriness I called them and asked where they were, I was still waiting to get my tire take off and the spare put on. He asked for the address, I gave it to him, he said good lord almighty, I'm over 1,200 miles from ya.
So I called AAA back and they had the tow service there in less than 15 minutes.

I have used it twice, once when I had a kinked tank vent and bike stopped on the Shasta Lake I5 bridge in Northern California and once when my belly tank fuel pump failed in the middle of South Dakota. AARP/Foremost performed with excellant results.

AAA 100 miles, Progressive nearest service center or about 15 miles of the customer's choice. Used AAA once, went very well!

We've had AAA for years. When I got my bike, I added it onto the membership. Needed it a couple of months ago. Fast, efficient, and professional.

With BCAA (CAA/AAA) not only did we need a membership, but you had to pay extra for bike towing. All PER person. I went with GWRRA (Goldwing and Valkyrie Riders [GL1500]). Membership was $55 a year for the whole family, with towing. An extra $25/yr gave me Roadside Plus, which gave me longer distance towing, and more. $80/yr for the family, rather than over $100 for just one person with BCAA. http://gwrra.org/benefits.htmlGWRRA gives a referal program, if you sign up, please use my membership # 283819 (hopfully I didn't do something wrong for this plug )

I've never needed a tow in over half a million miles of riding. But if I did, two things would be most important to me: - Does the truck get there quickly? I talked to a VRCC member who waited for hours in the dark on the way home from the first Colorado Inzane. I'd happily pay more out of pocket to avoid that.
- Do they take care of your bike? Damage to your Valk on top of a breakdown compounds the bad experience.
Are any of the towing plans better or worse in these areas?

I think it will vary with the various drivers that are contracted more than with the insurance company. In my one experience, the driver was a fellow cyclist and treated my bike as if it were his own. He arrived after my call to AAA within 45 minutes.

+1 for AMA. I have to pay for roadside assistance because I do not pay annual dues. The program is called AMA Life Member Plus. Used it for the first time last summer in Nashville TN, 760 miles from home. AMA knew where I was through the phone's GPS, had a haler there within an hour and followed up with a phone call.

GWRRA will take care of all your towing needs plus a Gold Book of members names listed by states that will provide trailering and lodging too. The book also gives Honda dealership contact info by state. This was cheaper than AAA and I carried that for a lot years.

I used the AMA last month when my alternator died. Took about 5 mins on hold until I got a rep. She took all the info, said a truck would be there in about 45 mins. Truck arrived in 20 mins. Guy knew how to tie down a motorcycle too. AMA followed up with a call to make sure the truck arrived and I was all set.

I looked up AMA last night. Its only a 35 mile towing. Its farther then that from my house to the nearest Honda dealer. At least with the GWRRA you have a 100 miles to play with.

Roadside comes with your GWRRA membership, but only 35 miles. You pay the etra $25 for the premium service, up to 100 miles. Buddies have mentioned calling them up on one side of the mountain when the snow got too deep, and they drove them over to the otherside and dropped them off.

I've got AAA RV coverage. The wife pays the bill and doesn't gripe so it must be reasonable. Had a rear tire go flat last year. The sent a truck with a motorcycle specific trailer out and did an outstanding job of securing the bike, not much of a wait either.
I had to laugh, when they were asking me all the questions about where the bike was, etc. they actually asked if I had a spare tire even though they knew it was a bike.
Works great for the cars too.
