the bike started last week, but leaked fuel from cracked hoses. so i removed the tank and the (*&!#) air box, replaced the fuel lines then replaced the tank. now when i hit the starter button the lights dim and the starter sort of clicks, but doesn't even turn over. it's been on a battery tender all winter and i even jumpered a car battery (i know, not the best plan) and confirmed the same. so it shouldn't be the battery.
i again removed the tank and airbox last night, can't see any loose connections
any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Have you checked to see if you've got a cylinder full of fuel? OR taken the battery out and had it load tested?

The headlight should go OFF, not dim. If it's not going off, and a jump didn't help, I would look at servicing the starter switch, instructions are in the "shoptalk" section, link above.

i have not checked the cylinders, and have not removed the battery for load testing.
i have cleaned the started button in the past, might just be time again.
i'll have to check again, maybe the headlight did go off, i don't recall exactly

Make sure your batt connections are clean and tight. Check the connector on the starter relay, use some CRC spray on the contacts to clean them then apply a small dab of dielectric grease to each contact

To start your bike, there is the battery, starter switch (relay with IS model), all the safety/kill switches, and then the starter relay.
If the jump battery was good (from your daily driver, not running), and that didn't start the bike. Then power should not be an issue.
Like already mentioned, starter switch cleaning link. Verify what your lights are doing.
I'm thinking more the starter relay. Good to be inspected and maybe cleaned/di-electric grease.
Did I miss anything?

Leaky fuel + starter clicking.....
The very first thing I would do is pull the spark plugs,, and try to start it THEN. Hydrolock is nothing to mess around with.

You can also test for hydrolock by putting the bike in 5th gear and pushing it. If the engine turns freely you should be good.

Just be sure to figure out and fix the cause of the hydrolock before it happens again. Sounds like you got lucky this time if nothing broke.
