working on a 2000 interstate, I just replaced the vac lines, fuel lines, air filter and spark plugs. The bike seams to be running a lot better. I had it idling in the drive way and noticed the cooling fan is not coming on. I drove it home from the owners house aprox 70 miles but it was strait freeway so it had air moving across the engine and I never paid attention to see if the fan had came on.
Is there a way to manually check the fan motor with out taking the radiator / fan off the bike? I located the black plug in the neck that goes to the fan. I wonder if I can disconnect and add power / ground to the plug to check the fan ?

TIA Keith

That will work as long as you get the polarity right.
The Fan motor switch is located lower left side of the radiator.
If you unplug it you should be able to short the two terminals in the plug....not the terminals on the radiator...and the fan should spin.....The fan has a constant 12 applied to it, and the switch supplies ground. So should work and minimal sparks.....Use this advice at your own risk    laugh

Check the fuse! I helped a friend pick up a Valk and it ran fine till we got into some stopped traffic.
The light came on and we pulled over.
The fuse was blown. We replaced it and it blew immediately.
Turned out that a dirt dobber welded the fan to the radiator.

Yes of course check the fuse, and give the fan a spin.
The fuse should have been the first place to look, sorry.

Okay I checked the fuse it was blown, I put in a new fuse, I put a ground to the fan motor switch I could hear the fan like it wants to run then pops the fuse. I'll have to pull the radiator and check the motor next.

Final Update I pulled the radiator and found a couple dirt dobber nest holding the fan blade. Removed them put every thing back together and it runs great.

Thanks everyone for your input
