« on: May 18, 2013, 05:41:39 AM »

I need to have my front fork seals redone. I purchased the OEM replacement sets from Honda and have a shop that will do the job. I want to remove the forks myself but don't own a motorcycle lift. Is there a safe way to support the front end for this process?

I plan to buy a lift but have seen where I need an adapter of sorts to use for my Valk. So even if I bought a lift today I would still be without the adapter which I have to buy online. It's raining, so no riding and I want to pull the forks off today if I can.

As always, any help is greatly appreciated.

you can use a regular jack and jack stands.  I dont have a lift either, but thats what i use.

with bike on side stand, put a jack stand up under the right crash bar, then jack up on the left/front side of the block, the bike will lean into the right jack stand when the bike is level, slide the stand under the left crash bar.
Works like a champ.

Thanks KSD....that sounds like a great solution. I will (carefully) give that a try. I Don't want to scratch my new engine guards.

Pad the top of the jack stands with a couple layers of duct tape.

If you are going to buy a M/C lift.  Go buy it.  You dont need the adapter to raise the front of the bike.  Just put the lift under the front most part of the engine and just the front end will come up.  set one of the safety stops and it can sit like that until the forks get repaired.

My simple home made wooden adapter used for two bikes is going on ten years old, has been thru many washes and is cruddy, and works great.

I like having this there for when I need it. Very STABLE and SAFE. The Valk is a very heavy bike and I have alot invested in her.
