When I got my 99 IS out for the spring... it was POURING gas out of SOMEWHERE.

I ordered all new fuel lines based on the results of some searching on this forum...

They are here.  This AM I pulled the tank, and airbox, and everything looks just fine!

So I set up a little fuel reservoir, and let some gas flow... no leak.  I start the bike... no leak Undecided Embarrassed

So what gives?

Where SHOULD I be looking for the leak?  How do I find out where it was coming from?

I hate to wrestle the airbox back into the bike only to find I have not solved the issue.

C'mon VRCC.   I need a Jedi fuel leak fix. cooldude

Jabba, I've had a fuel leak at the beginning of almost every spring.   One of the floats is sticking and I'm tooooo damn lazy to pull the carbs to clean whichever one it is.

So now when I get ready to start it, I thump every one of the 6 carbs, turn on the key and fir MGM up.    If it leaks on a carb, I beat it with a screwdriver handle till it quits.     I give it a full can of techron (sp) and go for a low speed ride.   When I think everything in the carb has a snoot full of Gas, Seafoam and Techron, I bring it home and park it.

Go mow my yard and when I'm done I fire it up.  NO leakee, park it till the next ride is coming up.

Good luck in finding your leak.

I did try beating the carbs to loosen any sticky floats... but wouldn't they drain down the overflow tubes?

Mine was leaking a crap load, onto the top of the engine.  Draining onto the headers and making white smoke...

It scared the hell out of me for a minute.

I am about to put it back together and see what happens...   Roll Eyes

I think it was the line that attaches to the petcock.  There is a crack right at the top where it connects to the petcock...

I am gonna put it back together and see what happens...

If you ordered new fuel lines then replace them (probably vaccum lines too, since the top of the engine is open) and see what happends.

All the fuel lines look great.  I put it back together and no leak.

It HAD to have been the 1st line cracked at the petcock.

HAD to be.

I am gonna tear the rear end apart now...

I hope there's no crack in your rear end (LOL).

The two carb. overflow hoses go from the carb rails to the back a little bit and sit in a bracket, if the floats stick, hopefully the gas will go out them and not into the intake. If gas comes out these hoses, it will come out on top of the engine. The six hoses off each carb are to drain the bowls and are shut off with a screw on each carb until you need to drain the bowls. You probably already know this but a refresher never hurts.

Look at the bright side your motor is probably really clean. Sounds like what was going on with mine, a stuck float caused everything to overflow on to the block. Sea foam and a bit of marvles mystery oil seems to have done the trick. Knock on wood.

My fule lilne had a big crack right where it attached to the petcock.  Open the petcock, and get some vacuum, and if went everywhere.  I replaced that 1st hose... and leak is gone.

Mine done the same thing this spring, poured gas everywhere, so I shut it down and went to order all new lines. Ordered the lines went back out an hour later and started her up again and wouldnt you know it, no leak.
