I tried searching for this, but found conflicting answers. Does anyone know what size clamp I need to attach highway pegs to the part of the crash bar that goes around the timing belt cover? I plan to mount the pegs in the middle of the curved portion. I know that 1 1/8" is too small...

The curved part  needs a 1 1/8 inch clamp.  The support portions below the heads require 1".

are these the ones most people use?  I have seen others (Kuryakyn) used in the same curved portion of the crash bar.  I want to replace the ones I have.  Suggestions?

I have both the 4050s that attach to the lower engine guards (scoops cut off an interstate), and a different setup mounted out on the outer sweep of engine guards (3 and 9 O'clock) with 1 1/8" clamps.

The 4050s with duallys have a much better and stronger clamp than the one in the above link.  You can stand on them and they will not move, unlike quick clamps.  However, they mount underneath on the guards, not out on the outer sweep of the guards. They are also the tightest mount to the bike when folded up.  http://www.kuryakyn.com/Products/974/Ergo-Cruise-Pegs

My pegs out on the guards do not have the swivel offsets (like the set in the link) because they are redundant, meaning for my leg length, they would just be folded back on themselves and only result in the peg being farther out from the engine guard than necessary.  I have clamps, clevis, and male-mount small ISO pegs with stirrups (and the little chrome fillers for the stirrups) (large ISOs are too large).  Dually pegs with no stirrups would work well too.

The stirrups provide nice heel support with just a round peg, but cannot be tightened enough to avoid them moving down if you put much force on them.  And unlike the 4050s which fold tightly to the bike when not in use, the Hwy pegs on the outer guard become the widest part of the bike (and will hit my other bike if not folded up before squeezing into the shed). And the stirrups stick out a little when the pegs are folded up on the guards.

With only a 30" inseam, I have to be a bit careful using them that my calves do not rest on the corner of my valve covers which get hot enough to burn you.  And for me these hwy pegs must be mounted with the clamps rotated rearward on the engine guard for a proper match-up to my feet.  So they look crooked to work correctly.... if I mounted them straight out from the guard I could not  put my feet flat upon them.

What I have is like the Kuryakyn 8070s, but they will not work with a HD 1 1/4 clamps... mine were pieced together from existing and a few purchased parts.  Unless you need to come back from or out past the engine guards, no need to spend for the rotating offsets.  I can ride with my feet on the pegs/stirrups or with my heels over the pegs (which is where I can burn my calves if I'm not careful).  While I do not as a rule ride twisties with feet on Hwy pegs, I have drug my stirrups on the pavement and ground off some metal in slow speed tight turns.

Both sets work fine, but I do like the 8070 style better than the 4050 style. (your legs are a little higher than on the 4050s)

The duallys alone on clamps would be a cleaner mount;  again with no offsets, like the 7992s (but again the kit only comes with 1 1/4 clamps)  Or the 4443 swichblade pegs (with swing down stirrups)

http://www.kuryakyn.com/Products/4028/Footpegs-with-Clevis-Magnum-Quick-Clamps

Everyone who sells Kuryakyn products does so for cheaper than Kuryakyn MSRP.  But if you were trying to get a multi-part kit price with 1 1/8" clamps instead of HD 1 1/4" clamps,  Kuryakyn might be willing to substitute the clamps for a kit price, when none of their dealers could do that for you.

I used 3 piece chrome clamps,  1 1/8 from JC Whitney bike catalog. Page 106 in catalog MC02113L,  Less than 20 bux. Hoser  cooldude  Ooops, I see you are wanting pegs, not driving lights, my bad.  My pegs are on the 1 inch bar, but I'm about a foot shorter than you.
