Three weeks ago went for a ride to iowa, put on 500 miles, bike seemed to run fine. todaywent to start bike ( first time in 3 weeks ) and it ran rough. seemed to get better as bike warmed up, so i went to go for a ride. mile down the road bike began to run rough, like running out of gas and quit. Yes i did have fuel turned on and no i was not low on gas. I finally got bike to run, but i had to have choke on all the way and throttle wide open and then bike only ran a little ways. pushing a valk sucks!!!. I got it runing again just barely and made it a little farther. but it only would run with full choke wide open and it ran like crap. finally made it home and once in garage an done swearing I drained a cup of gas out of tank to see if any water or gunk showed up. As far as i could tell gas looked ok. went to start bike again and it started rite up and ran great. So I decided to ride around close to home for a while. It seemed to run well for about 2 miles and then the same thing happened, strated to run like crap again. last spring had all new vac lines, new pet rooster on fuel tank, ect and it ran fine when i put away for winter.

Any ideas on the problem

thank you  dlm vrcc 2838

I know you said you have a new petcock and vacuum lines, but the symptoms you describe point to those exact things. Running out of fuel after a couple miles is when the bowls run dry. Even though you think they are new and fine, take another look at them. Maybe a rodent chewed on the vacuum line that goes to the petcock. You never know. You didn't happen to add a fuel filter or quick disconnect recently did you? There have been known problems with adding things to the fuel line.

Put some seafoam in the tank. See if that helps and if pos. run that tank out before refill.

could also be plugged secondary jets....especially after sitting over the winter.  When this happens most times the bike will only start and stay running with full choke, then start to die when you open up the throttle.  Lots of missing and stumbling until you get over 2500 to 3000 rpm.

Have you recently had the tank off or lifted?  Sounds similar to all the posts here about a crimped or plugged vent line.  Try opening the gas tank cap, then running it with the cap opened...will need a second key...

Yep, sounds like a classic fuel starvation problem. Reinstalling the fuel tank has historically caused a kinked vent line with many. Make sure it is nice and straight and clear. Did you try opening the cap and running it ? Also the #6 vacuum line could be a problem as well as the petcock itself.
If the fuel wasn't treated before storage the low circuits can be varnished, but, your symptoms don't quite appear to be that.
I think you'll find your problem with fuel delivery. When the problem arises, just open the fuel cap and see what happens. If that doesn't correct the problem just open a couple fuel drain screws and see what happens.
