Ok, back again. First, the problem- Starter stops dead in mid stroke, won't turn engine over- pull #6 plug, loads of raw gas in cylinder, push it out and engine fires right up, but after a while, developes a skip, in #6- runs for a while, shut off, 2 hours later try to start, starter stops again. I started with a new starter relay, then a starter, then replaced the diaphrams in the petcock, still there- any good next suggestions? Getting very discouraged here.... Embarrassed

You need a rebuild on the petcock. The parts from Honda are called a "cover set" Fuel is leaking past the diaphragm, down the vacuum line, and into #6 intake. If you keep messing with it without fixing it, you'll break something. Many have replaced the Honda petcock with a Pingle or some other such brand. Go to the top of the tech page and type petdodk in the search. You'll have PAGES of reading, and how-to cooldude

Petcock leaking down the vacuum line into #6, and/OR the float valve in #6 carb is stuck. Fix it and make sure you're not flooding that cylinder before you attempt to start it anymore. You can destroy an engine that way.

Also, once fixed, change the oil. Probably has gas in it.

If you have already replaced the diaphrams in petcock and did it correctly, then you evidently have a float sticking open.
 
You also really need to go to search box at center right of page and check out hydrolock, or anything else you wish to know.

Try to determine where the problem is, petcock or float valve. DO NOT keep rapping on the starter button if the engine doesn't want to spin over. Just tap the button and if the engine won't spin, clear that cylinder. Then once the engine is running and the bike is in a somewhat straight up position, shut it off and remove the vacuum line. If fuel drips from the vacuum line you have a petcock issue. With the line removed and after the bike has set for awhile if the cylinder still wants to fuel-lock, you have a float valve issue.

P.S. if you hit the starter and hear a clunk and a whirr from the starter area it's too late.

Did you read any of the responses in part 1 and part 2 ??

If the vacuum line is dry, it is the float needle sticking open.

Pretty simple.

No need to start a new thread each time. Just reply to your original thread....Or this one now.

If the guys here ask a question, answer it and you will get it fixed much faster.

Sorry if this post sounds harsh. It's been a long day, with no ride time for me.  Sad Maybe tomorrow.

Do not keep trying to start it with fuel in a cylinder. Your problem right now is easy. If you break the starter gears you will have a big project.
