     I know what the owners manual says, but how weight (safely and without braking things) can be put on the luggage rack and in the trunk.

I have had around 50 lbs in each saddle bag, and as much in the trunk on the interstate at the same time. Has not hurt any thing.
I think the weight Honda quotes is a liability thing.

I would not put too much weight ON the trunk rack.  Some light, bulky items maybe.  It just sits on the lid.  I would hate to break it up.
