Yesterday I installed an SM3 Kissan Signal Minder on my 1997 Valk Tourer for self cancelling turn signals.  Most often I ride my Goldwing so when I jump on my Valk I am forever leaving my signals on.  Fearing it may cause an accident I bought the Signal Minder.

As far as I can see it is installed correctly but it only works once in a while.  When it doesn't work, which is about 90% of the time, I have to hold the switch on for my signals to flash.  I also notice that my front signal lights flash together when the brake is applied.  When it is working it works great.  The signals flash 10 times and then shut off.  If you are at a corner with the brake applied it continues to flash until you release the brake and make your turn.  The fact that it works sometimes leads me to believe it is wired correctly.  I have checked all wires entering the SM3 with a meter and all are working correctly.

Thoughts??

Moisture. When mine would get moist it would misbehave. Otherwise, at other times it would get weird and I'd have to stop and turn off the bike to get it back on track. It also added buzz in the intercom of my IS. I took it out and went back to my Blinker Buddy seat vibrator as my reminder. I also have http://www.2-bseen.com/ turn signal/brake light indicators up where I can see them. It's pretty hard to leave the turn signals on with these.

Did you do the surgery that's required on the turn signal switch itself? I ended up using the metal springs but had to cut a coil off of each to reduce the force required to activate the turns. I didn't like the black foam "springs" at all.

I did.  It does take a little more pressure than I care for to activate them but that's not the problem.  It's an intermittent work/don't work scenario.  I'm starting to believe it must be the module itself.  I've written to Kissan so will await their thoughts.

Thanks for your help.

Double check the dip switches

Checked that too but maybe I'll switch to 20 flashes instead of 10 and see what happens.

Thanks.

I used the foam over the spring cutting the foam to 3/4" first b4 inserting, and it works perfect. I worry about the spring shorting after reading the book.

I wrote directly to Kissan and they did reply.  One suggestion they made that I wasn't doing, was just moving the switch quickly over to the right or left position.  I had been holding it for a second or two until the light started to flash.  I tried their suggestion and so far it has worked every time.
