i bought a used Valkyrie trunk for my standard. what is the simplest way to wire it to the rear tail lights?

Your trunk most likely just have the three pin connector for the trunk lights. Since your bike does not have the correct plug for that, you can either purchase the plug end for the bike or cut off the end and replace it with any plug that has at least three prongs. (I used a trailer connector.) The brown wires is for the tail lights, green and red is for the brake lights, and the green is for the ground. Just tap these into the proper connectors under you right side cover. (Green to green, brown to brown, and I can't remember the color for the brake light on the bike but you will connect the green and red one to the brake light.) Just be sure to use some type of connector that you can unplug so you can remove the trunk when you want to sport around without it.

I spliced into the wiring harness under the right side cover (look for the bigger rubber boot) and ran my wires to a plug under the seat.  From the plug, I ran a harness back to the trunk under the rear seat.  With the plug, I can disconnect and take the trunk off when ever I want....either for maint or just for riding solo.  I can take a few pics and post them later tonight if needed.
