I did the Supervalk conversion on my recently obtained 99 Interstate, like the looks a lot.  But, the WIFE isn't happy with no sissy bar/backrest.  I had a Harley short one from a buddy I was going to use, but she wants a backrest like on the 97 Standard I have (the stock one).  I would like it to be able to take off easy (if she isn't on the bike).  Anybody got one on their Interstate or any ideas? Thanks,  Gary

You can do a search on both boards and find the true answer, but, my understanding is , you have to change the fender rails to the standard/tourer type, and then you can add the backrest. I have no idea if the trunk can be used with these rails cooldude

I understand your quest, the only solution I liked was a Corbin seat with the plug in sissy bar. You have to shorten the nose on the driver seat to work with the IS tank but you can take the passenger sissy bar in and out in a second. Otherwise you have to change to the Standard fender rails (which obsoletes your trunk) and then if you want a solo look you must buy the $40 rail that bolts into the sissy bar brackets (the brackets do not come off unless you remove the fender rails). I prefer the Ultimate seat for comfort but they do not have a plug-in sissy bar.

Or just put the trunk back on when she wants to go.

To me, a supervalk is only super when solo.

There was someone who made a bracket to bolt to the bolts for the trunk mount and attached a stock sissy bar to it. The  bar can be installed or removed  quickly.

If you change the fender rails to a std. or tourer, you can mount the backrest and carrier on, them remove when not riding double and install a solo bar where the backrest would be, 4 bolts and done...here's photo with it on..you'll need a passenger seat also from a standard or tourer...of course you can't put the truck back on unless you change the fender rail back to I/S.
